Villain seemed like a normal 50NL player--no great reads. I'm leaving off the rest of the hand, b/c all I want to know is what you think of the turn play here.

Looks good. Opp certainly has a T, and I doubt will put it down.

Unraised pot, still lots behind. I like Bet/3-bet better on the turn. Keep Ax calling you down, get Tx feeling pot-struck for his stack.

My thinking was that checking here would allow the weaker hands like A/weak kicker and drawing hands like KJ to catch one more card while setting up made hands like Tx for a max pressure raise when they go ahead and bet the turn. Is this reasoning flawed?

I agree with this, given stack sizes this is the easiest way to get the stack in the middle and gets value when they would call a bet but check behind.

You dont get as much money out of the hands by checking as you do by betting. Ax is calling a bet, a strong ace is probably raising. KJ is definitely raising, why do they need to catch another card? Tx is also probably raising. A bet/3b line allows you to get your stacks in the middle in the least awkward way.

My bad. I meant Kx or Jx.

I disagree with this. IMO the average unknown player very often checks Ax--even a strong A here. I also think a weak T, depending on how passive the player is, surprisingly often checks here, too.

Right, they often check them a lot, that goes against the idea of a check raise. To check raise your opponents must bet after you check. They may be checking if you check, but they will almost always call your bets and strong Aces or Tens are raising, you lose value from the hands that would call a bet if you bet or check behind if you check.

Fuck--sorry, Andy, I'm an imbecile--hungover and trying to do 20 things at once while posting. For the record, I actually do know what a check raise is...
