With your stack size, no. And just lead the flop normally.

hard to get a read when you dont bet out the flop, the way you played i feel like youre comitted but if i had to guess id say you were beat.

What is wrong with the check/raise? It is the c-bet's nightmare and it forces top pair to build a bigger pot than it wants to. It allows me to get more money in when I'm most likely to have the best hand. Also, if an ace comes out on the turn that I'm still actually beating, I've incorrectly lost all confidence in my hand and will be looking to minimize the pot size - might as well get more in while I'm confident I'm ahead.... in hindsight, it also opens the door for the set to push, allowing me to fold(?) That's what I'm thinking in hindsight, because the dude did have a set and stacked me.

So is the check/raise bad because it commits me to the pot? Or because it doesn't define his hand as much as a bet/call or bet/raise would?

How would you all play this hand, and where can you get off of it, if at all?

you have said it yourself the check/raise not only builds a big pot but get you into a postion where if he 3bets can you fold? i had a hand just like this and ended up being stacked the same way, the best hand on this flop is trips, and the 3bet sertanly says this( even if he has two pair u have to let this go). i think you was going broke here what ever he did because of what u did, but u could of played it better, c-bet the flop, call if rasied, bet/check the turn, fold if he bet/rasied again it's only one hand of many you don't need to broke on KK's u need to win $$

I'll 3-bet all-in vs. a shortie here. Most people do.

Don't sit with a shortstack on the table.
    Lead the flop.

You are the one who raised preflop, so villain doesn't have an opportunity to Cbet on this hand, only you do.
In answer to your question... it depends...
