    Default Yellow zone play?

Hi I was hoping for a little advice on how to play in the yellow zone. I understand that small pairs and suited connectors become much less desirable but I was wondering what else applies. I want to get back in the green but to do this is it best to tighten up my starting hand requirements or loosen them?
My instinct is to tighten up until I hit the orange zone when I start looking for the table situation to push for a double up, but maybe playing a little looser in the yellow would be better? I'm playing low stakes MTT and SnG on Poker Stars.

SNGs are a little bit different than MTTs when you are talking M strategy IMO. In an SNG you have to monitor chip stacks and how loose or tight your opponents are playing. I would not focus so much on which zone you are in. Generally you are playing for 3rd. There are others here that can give you a better explanation than I can on this. I’m sure someone with smarts in Independent Chip Model (ICM) can provide a lot of insight. Do a search on ICM.

When I get into the yellow zone, I am playing more hands. As the blinds increase you need to loosen up a little. You don’t want to let yourself get down to the orange or red and then be pushing for your life. HOH says that suited connectors and pp’s are not very valuable, however if I have a stack between 20 and 10, I’m still seeing flops with these. If folded to me in late, I’m raising for a steal.

Yeah I guess in SnG's the table becomes short handed so you have to loosen up anyway, but I'll try to do the same in MTT's now. Lets say you are well in the green in an MTT, do you play tight, preserving your stack and looking for good opportunities to play, or do you try to see every cheap flop thinking that you can afford to do it and you might flop the odd concealed monster?

In HoH he says that you play however you want. I would caution you to play loose unless you are a decent at reading players. Playing tight takes a little of the guess work out of things and you will tend to last longer in MTTs. With that said you have to be willing to die to live. In order to get deep you need to accumulate chips. As you progress, as I am trying to do currently, you will need to focus on what your opponents have and what you think they think you have. Confusing I know . Like chardrian always says, "take your hand off the mouse and think before you act". There are a lot of good articles out on the web and at FTR. I would suggest that you do some searches. Here is an interesting article for playing in the early stages and trying to chip-up. gl
