600$ buy in at the Borgata yesterday. Opinions on this play

Me: Mid position 9 handed with 7000 in chips blinds are 200 / 400 and 50$ ante. 3 limpers to me I'm holding pocket 9's. I raise 1000 total. I get 1 caller from a guy with only 200 more in chips than me..

My hand: pocket 9's
caller: A/10 off

Flop: A / 2 / 6 Rainbow... I'm first to act. I FIRED out 2000 REALLY FAST. The guy called but it took him forever.. Really hesitited big time so i put him on A with a low kicker

Turn: 4h... I FIRED OUT ALL-IN. Now, I did this because i knew i did not have the best hand but i felt he had a weak A and he may have thought he was gonna get out Kicked (which has happened to me a million times Playing AJ)...

It took him 3 F'n minutes to call and he kept askin me if I had a BIG A. but he said "F-IT" and finally called and i was out in 20th out of 70 players. SUCKS! but I felt he had a weak A and i though i may be able to push him out by making him make a decision for almost all of his chips

any coments?

I don't think when you're positive someone has a better hand than yours, jeopardizing your entire stack to try to push them off said hand is very + EV.

Edited to add--To clarify my post, I don't think this type of play is always -EV. For instance, in a deep-stacked cash game, this sort of thing given reads ,etc. is often very profitable. In my limited understanding of tournament play, however, the key when blinds are getting high is to get your $ in with the best hand--you're not likely to fold out someone with 12 BBs left when they've got TPGK. So it's about picking your spots, and this was not the right one.

Agreed, I just wanted to know stack sizes to see if he had committed the guy by the turn.

First of all.. I Won the seat at the 600$ buy in by Winning a Sat. Tourn the week before.. And YES i will continue to play higher limit games and still play aggressive... I've been getting mixed views on my play.. Many agree with my aggressiveness.. Before this hand he seemed pretty easy to push out of a pot so an aggressive move may have worked and it almost DID!!

Would you risk all of your chips with on a 10 kicker????? Bottom Line: I mady my OP make a really difficult decision for more than 90% of his chips... That's what it's all about sometimes, just throwing your nuts on the table... He made the correct call, but I know it was a difficult call for this guy..

I'll just win again tomorrow... No worries

What were the chip stacks? How much was he risking exactly? You;re not approaching the hand from a good poker discussion vantage point.

honestly this hand isnt horrible but I would have done a few things differently

with 99 in MP after 3 limpers id definitely be looking to take this pot down preflop, and that means raising more
if there were really 3 limps, that means 2250 is already in the pot. If you make a pot-sized raise (to 3050), then it's pretty hard to fold to a push unless the reraiser is uber-tight. I'd make it 2500 to go. If this happened, the postflop play would be much different. As played, you need a strong read to risk your tournament trying to push someone off a hand you have only 2 outs to outdraw. I felt like your postflop betting reeked of desperation. If I felt like the man could be moved off his hand, I would check-raise the flop if he made a large bet or check-raise the turn after c/c'ing the flop if his flop bet was weak and I thought his turn bet would be non-committing

Ok, sorry--thought you were looking for actual criticism instead of people telling you you played it great. Never mind, keep trying to push people off decent hands with whatever when blinds are getting really high--you played it superbly and are a really great player.

After he calls flop, I don't see him folding any turn bet, unless your all-in was a huge overbet, but even then, He's got an ace, and there's only two left, so he might as well take his chance right?

And lets look at this: If he's anywhere close to a solid player, there's 3 limpers to you (1200 in pot), plus the blinds (1050). Your raise pre and villain's call bump it to 4250. Another 4k in on the flop, and all of a sudden, you're left with 4k, and he's calling 4k into a 12k pot.

And fwiw, I wouldn't bet out really fast on the flop. Make it look like you're thinking about how much you wanna extract outta him, I assume insta-bets are bluffs at my home games, and I'm right about 75% of the time.

Exactly. What else would he call with on that raggy flop? Don't try to push donkies off hands. As played (1k preflop raise, flop bet), check the turn. Save your chips, you still have enough to do damage.
