First off the pre-flop reraise shows tremendous strength, you raised 5x the BB and he came over the top for almost twice as much. You'd have to put him on QQ, KK, AA, AK, AQ. I wouldve easily laid down AJ here. On the flop you were pretty much paying for the bad call, only hand that had you beat was AA and he had it - but you shouldntve even seen the flop.

yep the only way you don't bust is not calling the pf reraise. However I can't fault you for that. especially considering this is a "quickie" i'm assuming that's some sort of turbo. It's time to build a nice stack.

So you put him on AK AA KK or QQ...fine...it will cost you $180 to call a $400 pot. you have the odds... an ace falls and you beat KK and QQ and Ak which i say is a possibility. I also extend villians range to JJ and TT here. Iv'e seen that play many times at this level.

I go broke on this hand every time.

Don't call a 14xbb raise with AJ and you won't run into this problem.

Edit: Whoops, I didn't see the 5x bet you made. His reraise is close to 3x your raise. Very strong. I would tend to fold here.

This was my thought also. I wouldnt have called his PF raise if I hande already raised. Some people play pretty lose early in these tournies. I figured if I didnt hit good on the flop I would let it go. Calling his PF raise obviously doomed me. I'll be more cautious of a re-raise like that next time. Thanks

I don't play turbo's so my advice might be out of place.

At the low blind levels I'd not raise with AJ, especially from UTG. And another thing - fold AJ to a raise, I guarantee that it will save you $ in the long run. It's a hand that gets you in trouble more then it lets you win. Sure there a spots when it's a great hand, but that is usually if you're in the push/fold mode.

    Just my $0.02

Id say it once and I say it again, people sure do over value AJ suited and unsuited, I see more people call my raises with big hands like AA, KK QQ with AJ...I would of folded this preflop

Even if they do play loose here early on, do you really want to go busto on AJ? on the very first hand? These are the quesitons that go through my mind before I call that preflop raise

You can limp AJs UTG at these blind levels.

agreed, at this point when I do raise its usually 2.5 x bb, works just as well in my opinion, maybe not UTG, but in other positions.

this is why i don't like playing marginal hands like these early in a MTT, especially UTG w/ AJ. when something shitty happens, like what happened in this instance, i want it to be a situation i had to be in. For instance, if your stack is dwindling down, and you have AJ on the button, a BB with AA calls and hits that same kind of flop, its definately much easier to swallow that kind of beat. just try to put yourself in easier situations. raising AJ that early in the tourney when the blinds are meaningless UTG like that just isn't a situation you want to be putting yourself into. I like to remind myself, Keep It Simple Stupid. That usually helps me out. Hope that helps.
