If I check turn, must I call river?

    Default If I check turn, must I call river?

    opponent is around 25/12/2.5 after a couple hundred hands. My image was almost non exisistant I was playing so tight after about 30 hands or so.

    Preflop: Hero is UTG with Q, Q. SB posts a blind of $0.50.
    Hero raises to $4, 4 folds, BB calls $3.

    Flop: ($8.50) J, 5, T (2 players)
    BB checks, Hero bets $6, BB calls $6.

    Turn: ($20.50) 9 (2 players)
    BB checks, Hero checks.

    River: ($20.50) 6 (2 players)
    BB bets $13, Hero folds.

    Final Pot: $33.50

    No, you definitely don't HAVE to call the river bet. A lot depends on your feel of the situation and how you think this player would play draws/sets. I usually pay this one off though.

    Checking the turn induces a bluff. It's not that great to increase the amount of hands villain bets with if you are going to fold. That said, with a good read, it's definitely foldable.

    i fold, it's pretty obvious to me that he's beating you. The bluff possibility is not big enough to give you odds to call.

    Yea but we cant put him on only a bluff or a flush/straight. I call here and expect to see a hand that beats me a decent amount of the time, but I also expect to see complete air and a hand like TP that thought they were value betting that river

    Get better at rivering or and you won't have to make such tough decisions.
