Quick question.

Does anyone ever minimum raise? Cant ever see a situation where I'd do this pre flop yet it happens all the time online. I see people showing down crap like Q-10 off, J-9 etc when they've min raised pre flop!!

Also, when is it necessary to overbet the pot? I never feel the need to do this either (unless im pushing all-in)

I never min bet until the blinds get huge in relation to the stacks, and even at that point very rairly.

As for overbetting the pot I will do this on several occasions. If I am playing with a major Laggy, am confident that I have the best hand at the time, and want to end it at that time I will overbet the pot.

I will also overbet the pot if I have been extremely active lately (especially if I haven't had to show down good cards) then hit a big hand. This gets called down very frequently because people will think I am just trying to buy pots.

Minraising: As jator said - when the blinds are big enough and I think I can blind steal with it (i.e I have seen people fold to minraises consistently) or in situations when I want a family pot to knock someone out.
For example SB has 1.5 BB I dont think he will fold, I will minraise, he will go AI and BB will call, and me and the BB can check the hand down

Regarding overbetting, you may want to do it when you have a hand that is probably best, but is vonerably and there are multiple players in the pot.

For example lets say you hold 55 and limped preflop, 5 people see a flop of
5cTcJd.
Pot is 100
You probably have the best hand here, but there are both str8 and flush draws.
If you bet 100 and just one player calls then the rest of the villians have 3:1 odds to call, and the more callers the better odds they get.
In this situation I would probably bet around 160-180

As for min raising, I'm actually sure I've done it on a few occasions. Think I was big stack and there was 3 left and was either defending my blind or trying to steal from the button on a tight table (I play 6 seaters so this woulda been the bubble)
