Unloved pots

Sometimes I find myself in a pot with 3 or 4 people and I have nothing. But no one else has much either and it gets checked all the way down and someone wins with a pair of 4's or something. Should I try to pick up these small pots or is the small return not worth the hassle if someone is slowplaying or gets stubborn?

If I'm going to try and take down these orphan pots I like to a stab at them in position on the turn as opposed to the river. When it get's to the river a lot of players like to police you with their bottom pair/missed 33/A high.

I also like to have a little something like a gutshot in case I get called, but if I'm called and I miss I almost always check behind the river. Showing down a cheap bluff can also boost your table image against semi-aware/half-thinking opponents.

orphaned pots are a byproduct of good position. if a bad flop comes and its checked to you, you can reap the benefits of having good position. If your playing with taggs, you can generally take down the pot with a quarter to half pot bet. if theres a Lagg, but you know hes weak, make a potsized bet. if you dont know just put out a bet and if your called its safe to say the person is on a draw or lower pair. if on the turn its checked again, then you bet big, if ur called your done with the hand. (assuming you had nothing).

Look to take these down on a dry board and in position. I regularly pick up these orphan pots, but I've learnt not to try to bluff boards like 7h 8s 9h due to a lot of players calling with random draws.

So once again it's about position, reading your opponents and the texture of the board. I'm sensing a pattern here

These orphan pots are a great example of why I'll limp 43s or T7s on the button after multiple limpers but I won't complete the small blind with them. In position you have a chance to scoop an orphan pot, but from the SB you have none.

If a pot is checked to me on flop when I'm last to act and board is realtviely draw free and slowplay free I will fire out a 3/4 pot bet. If there's a donk who I know will chase or board is scary, I will wait for another check to on turn. Taking down small/unwanted pots with position is a great way to float above the blinds.

Yes I was wondering what hands to play in the SB, I mean a hand like 67 sooted looks good for half a bet but then people say don't play draws out of position. I'm thinking that even though it's cheap a hand has to be very strong to be worth playing here. I've been tempted to limp in on the button with any old thing but I don't yet think I'm strong enough post flop to make it +ev. However I will bear it in mind.
