There seems to be about 3-4 more donks at the $16 level per tourney than you'd see at the $27. But people playing the $27s aren't badasses by any means so don't be intimidated.
Almost everyone plays an ultra tight early, ultra aggressive late strategy. This is probably a horrible idea, but one thing that I employed with good success when I was playing the $27s, was loosing up during the first two orbits.. and was able to steal a few pots early. With 80% of the field playing uber-tight, this is nice way to pick up a few hundred chips to put you just ahead of those only looking for premium cards. This needs to be down with care and usually is more dependent on the texture of the flop and the play of your opponent. Players at this level CAN lay down TPTK if they are meeting strong resistance. At the $16s, you are more likely to get called down.
