Restricting replies on the Bad Beats Board
There's going to be a thread about it at some point, so I might as well start it...
Just because some bad-tempered regulars got into as fight on the Bad Beats forum doesn't, IMHO, mean it should be closed. To be honest if someone DOES post a HH there which actually demonstrates bad play rather than bad luck then it's a GOOD thing if they get it pointed out to them.
Seriously, though, I think it sets a bad precedent. Instead of making people behave it negates their responsibility to be good virtual citizens. What happens next time there's a fight on the NL strats forum? Or, heaven forbid, on the community, where Licence To Be A Dick is granted as a condition of posting there?
When I post a bad beat I like getting comments or condolences. In fact, weak as it shows I am, I kind of crave such things - I doubt there's a single player on FTR who hasn't felt at one time or another that they MUST be playing badly when they get sucked out on time after time. The hard-nosed dudes who think there's no point to the bad beat board don't agree with this, I know, but lots of people do.
Finally, I started a thread ("$100NL") on the bad beat board where I was actively looking for responses, admittedly for purely selfish reasons. Now no-one can reply!
Anyway, I don 't think it's a terrible state of affairs or a catastrophe or an abuse of power (far from it - Xianti is one of the best moderators I've come across, and I say this as having been a pro mod myself in the past), but I just don't think it's the best course of action.
