It's more than enough against a short stack, 5 handed all in preflop. If this is in the beginner forum I assume that it's a simple answer. I'm simple, so is this a matter of against a small stack sooner or later you will get the best of him since he's covered and 60%-40%'s will work both ways. I may not be wording it right but I do play this way alot. Many times the have given up and are trying to bust or double up with mediocre cards, and as long as I dont double them back to the buy in I'll get another chance at theirs and my $$

I'd have a bit of a hard time making that call without a read, but I stacked a shortie calling his a/i with Q8s the other day so who am I to talk.

I think Fnord's point is that should be prepared to call a/i bets from shorties with a wider range than you normally would against a full-buy. There's a lot of shortstacking fish out there that push practically any two to steal, on the assumption they have fold equity, so deny them that by looking them up, even at the risk of doubling them up. More often than not you'll have the best of it, and when you don't you usually get an opportunity to get your chips back because their uber-aggro playing style rarely changes even when they've built themselves up to a full buy.

There's also the message it send to the rest of the table. You get a lot more action from the full-buys when they see you do stuff like this.

Absolutely. But get the name. Alot of hit and runs need to be found after they leave with your money. I have notes on a few and I look them up on a regular basis. I will do this so long as I'm not doubling up to more than a full buy-in.

One thing that probably goes without saying is that you don't automatically look him up just because he's short. If the villain is a nit just fold.
