JJ on rag board, looks like im in trouble...

    First hand of the game, so I have abs. no information on this player. I was going to bet out flop to see where i stood, but didnt really want a re-raise from him at this point, seeing how a couple players got the mindset where they think im "stealing the pot" on a low board because i thought "he had 2 high cards"...so i planned to check call and see waht the turn brought. Another under on the turn...good for me, but yet a strong bet from him. I figured I was beat...He didn't show either, but someone had said bluff and he said Ace high, then said jk, QQ...so idk.

    Raise more preflop at least 5x bb, probably 7-8x bb with jacks.

    wait a minute. 7-8xBB with JJ?

    The advice i usually get from here is that 5xBB is a good raise and that anymore is too much even with KK or AA.

    I didn't raise pre-flop, he did. If i did re-raise ...he was most likely calling and if any over comes to the board im kinda screwed don't you think?? - and if im raising 7-8x the big blind, the only person who's calling or re raising is someone with a better hand, and blinds are only 10-20, no point right now...

    You raised 4x BB, think about it these sngs are very loose 5x bb with jacks may bring a multi way pot.

    I would raise to 300 preflop to see where you stand. If called, I'd check/call postflop like the donkey that I am.
