In Hand 1, isn't a bet of 7K-8k going to win you the pot most of the time?

It depends on gusher's calling range.

In hand 1 I'm going to lead out the flop with a reasonable bet anyway. If he raises you can get away from the hand easily, but I can't check there and let him bluff me if he's missed too.

If he has a hand that beats you, he has to be worried about overcards coming on the turn and river so he has to reraise on the flop to get you off your hand.

You'll know where you stand if you face the reraise and more than likely he folds
