Default what's your move here? go for the gold or lay it down?

    $22 Monster multi - 80 players
I was pretty sure short stack (but not as short as me) was going to lay it down to big stack's re-raise. I had just been through the blinds so wasnt desperate but needed chips pretty badly at this M.
Button was fairly loose w his raises but I still put him on a range of AA-88/AK-AJ/KQ/QJ. Can you lay this down at this M?
    Payout was as follows:
    4th - $147
    3rd - $175 + $100K monster free.roll
    2nd - $275 + $100K monster free.roll
    1st - $425 + $100K monster free.roll

While I wanted to get in the free.roll, I already had a seat for this week and wanted at least 2nd based on the payout. Either way, can you fold here with this stack size? Can anyone do the math and tell me if this is +CV?

if you're playing to win, then this is standard... playing for 3rd, you can fold. Most of us play to win though

i don't really understand what you said about the payout - you want in but you're in but you want second.

play here unless you have strong read otherwise, no reason to think you aren't good. If they have a big pair, fine. It's not like big stack doesn't do this with hands below QQ.

the math isn't hard for chip EV, what range do you put the on?

QQ 4-handed is huge. Even if you are just playing for second, you will need to double up soon anyways. Plus the difference in payout between 4th and 3rd is negligible (I'm assuming if you have a freeroll ticket a second one is worthless). Gambol!

no - I can use the free.roll any week - it definitely has value ($100K/8000 players = about $12.50 - but lots of dead money and top 2000 get seat in Million free.roll w approx 8000 more players (value = $125)

drmcboy - what i meant about the payout is what Ko said - the difference between 4th and 3rd is negligible other than the free.roll seat - although as I said, the free.roll has value. Opp range = range of AA-88/AK-AJ/KQ/QJ.

But if other shorty folds to big stack's reraise, and I fold out the queens, I'm no better off than I was before - maybe a little bigger stack than the other shorty. Just seemed like this was the spot to make a stand.

Big stack had JJ but flopped a jack and took me out - but I still think it was the right move. BUT - I was already guarenteed 4th - perhaps I should have played it safe and worked on creeping into 3rd. Really wanted to win - I had just won it the night before for $500 and a seat.

Still not sure what to do next time.

If you were deepstacked and at a full table, I could understand maybe folding here. But 4 handed w/ QQ - that's an easy push.

Even if you fold, and original raiser gets KO'd you are blinded out in ~20 hands. Go with QQ here - you are much better than a coin-flip vs. bigstacks range.
