    Default blind stealing

Sorry if this is already talked about in here but I couldn't find it in the stickies. I don't play SnG's much but once in a while a buddy IMs me and I play one he's in. So I don't have the exact history, but here are the basic details:

It was the last 7 of a 45 person turbo SnG where top 7 get paid. edit - I figured out how to get the hand history...

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t1200 (6 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    CO (t13175)
    Button (t12320)
    Hero (t5655)
    BB (t12845)
    UTG (t3985)
    MP (t7520)

Preflop: Hero is SB with 3, J.
5 folds, Hero raises to t5580

My buddy says it was a dumb play, but I don't think so. What do you think?

How big are the blinds? And how tight is BB?

Is blinds are huge, big blind is tight, its ok...if not its kinda dumb IMO.

oops, i edited out that the BB was tight, and I have been real tight. the blinds are 600/1200

Then sure, but you have to realize he will call you with a decent pair or AQ and up or so...

It's a matter of, are you playing for the money, or you playing to win...1800 is still a significant increase in chips for you...

I would wait for an ace or king at least, even J-10...J3 just..sucks lol

Actually, Alexos, he pretty much has to push any two here.

The blinds are such a huge percentage of your stack that you have to push a HUGE range of hands here. Nice hand, benny.

Really? But you still have 4 hands until blinds come again, surely you will find a much better hand...also the UTG player is shortstacked, and he will be blinded out soon.

Folded to me in the SB, I push any 2 here. The blinds are too high to wait for cards.

Ok cool, I'm glad you guys mostly agree and my logic is prob good.

Alexos - I know what you're saying - it's exactly what my buddy said and I also don't agree with it, even though the chances are that I'll get at least Ace high or a SC or something to push with in the next 4 hands...

But the thing is, the BB is tight, and he is the only other person I'm worried aboutt, but he has random cards. Odds are (like you wrote), he is only calling with hands like AJ+, 66+ or so. That's like 10% of hands, meaning he'll fold 90% of the time. Even a semi loose player folds like 80% of the time. The times he calls (like he did in this hand with 88 - doh!), I can suck out like 1/5 of the time.

So basically the blinds are so important to me, and the odds are I will win at least the blinds by going all in, so it's a good move.

Okay, I just realized you were already in the money.

If it was on the bubble, would u still have done the same thing?

I dont know, Im doing well enough, I dont have software that tells me if this is -EV or not, so it might not be the "right" play but I fold this if I'm on the bubble (most of the time). I mean there's nothing urgent about the situation, yes you are freakin shortstacked, but hell I CAN wait 3-4 hands I'll surely find a pocket pair or anything better than J-3.

I'd be less reckless if it was the bubble, -EV or not.

yea I was in the money now, but I'm totally not sure of the logic if I'm right before $...just what I was thinking if I'm trying to get to the 3-5 place payouts vs the 6-7 place.

Hmm, the logic being you wait for better cards, you have a better chance of making the money (because there is another shortsack about to get blinded out), and then from there you aim for the higher paying spots.

You guys are saying to push any two, right? What if next hand it's folded to you again, and you have 2-4 offsuit. You're still shortstacked, do you push any two again?..I can go on... do you keep on pushing any two if its folded to you and you're in button or blinds?

You push any two in the SB. No question. With a stack like that, probably on the button too. Probably on the CO too. I'd have to run it through to be positive, but I'm like 90% sure.

Bubble is a little bit tighter range wise, but I'm still pushing this hand all day on the bubble.

    Pushing should be standard here.

    Yep.

And FWIW (god I love that acronym!), you were much better than 1/5 to win when called. You were more like 30%, which, btw, would be true for almost any hand he's calling with (other than AJ/JJ+).

pushing is standard whethewr ITM or on the bubble. i would of been pissed if someone had of bet before me ruining my easy push situation.

oh dont bother listening to mates if they are barely casual players.

my mates watched my play a sng once and had a fit at some of my folds.

one said ''how can you fold QT'' you have to see a flop.

you see now consideration to stack size, position, he has emotion based tendencies, etc, etc.

Im the worst player they now but take there money.
