    Default Resteal thoughts

After a long, long hiatus from tournaments I played one tonight and it occurred to me that there's a specific demographic of player who will raise 4 or 5X in mid/late position on the usual tight table when blinds are at around 400/800.

You have them covered in the BB, assume around 20X BB stacks. It is never wrong to push with any two here against this opponent as we pretty much know how they feel about calling off their stack. Maybe the only hands we're worried about are AK and JJ but we still have some FE against that. Discuss.

I highly disagree with this statement. 20x... makes around a 18k stack which would probably be around average in most larger tourneys at that level. Still enough to play decently, if you want to re-steal maybe re-raise 3-5x, not 20x. Theres too many times you will be offering your stack to that player who will "call his off".

I.E. - I had this moronic idea in the very late stages of a 10+1 MTT on stars a few nights ago to push my 20th place stack in against the 10th place player who happened to be in the small blind. Table folded around to him, he raised 4x, I pushed all-in. Knew it was a mistake from the instant i clicked go, he turns over AQs to my 85o. Had I simply re-raised here a more reasonable amount, I wouldn't have lost my stack. Finished 55th, reason? Being a Donk.

Just read Phil Gordons "Little green Book" , which is great, by the way- and he talks about re stealing when a table is loose, and there are often mid/late position raises made by the same player. He's mostly advocating cutting these people off in later position, not necessarily on the blinds. This way, if they call , you still have position on them, and have options after the flop ( though if you are truly restealing, you probably dont want to go to a flop period lol)

he also says stealing from the cutoff has become more "money" than from the button, in a stealing related off point

In many cases there is more value in restealing when the table is tight, as some players know there is a better chance of taking the blinds so their range is wider from HJ onwards.

it's these specific players amongst the tightwads I'm talking about. obv i'm not advocating restealing without a read. But picking up betting patterns from a guy who is obviously aware of how the table is playing is as useful as restealing in a loose environment.

i just think that these guys don't want to call off their stack often enough which makes the situation +EV, along with the times we suck out when they do call. i wouldn't do this with the same type of player if they were to have enough chips left for push and fold if they lost as they'd likely be aware of this too.
