    Default Stars $11 45-man, 99 turns a str8 on 4 flush board

Totally lost/all streets...I called the flop b/c I thought I might be ahead, and had outs if I was behind. I checked behind on the turn b/c of the possibility of a flush, and I called the river basically b/c I thought I was good there about half the time or better. I think I should have raised either the flop, or as played, raised the river. I don't think the turn check is all that bad b/c a made flush already beats me. I know I played this really passively. Please help me think through this entire hand...Thx

I don't think you played the hand badly.

You are in position, so instead of calling that flop, you might want to raise - but depending on your opp that doesn't give you much info if you get called and the flush actually hits.

You almost always do NOT want to raise that river - if he doesn't have the flush, he will just fold (so calling gets you the same result), and if he does have the flush it will be tough to get him off the hand.

fold flop. you have 0 clean outs.

river is OK, it's either fold or call, I hope you're kidding about raising. This is about as big a bet as I would call.

LOL, unfortunately not, but thanks for the frankness. My river play sucks, especially in spots where you have to, you know, use your head a little. But I see why raising is horrible, thanks.

This has to be one of the most evil boards I have ever seen.
Your straight is utterly crushed by (in order, I think )
    Xxh
    Ahx
    Khx
    K9
    AK
    J8
    J10
    QJ
    QQ
    X9h
    K9h
    AKh

    BUT...
    1) Opponent might not have ANY of these...
    2) If opponent has less than the last 4 or so, they have to take into consideration that YOU might have the last 3 or 4...
    3) Unfortunately, if they have ANY of those, they will likely call despite all that... (just like you did)

    Oh well.
There is no such thing as free checking...
