    Default Some hand history help

I am hoping to find someone I can PM or email my hand histories to. I'd like to work through a few with someone, to see exactly what I should be examining when I go back over my histories. I can often see mistakes in play I make, and others make when I re-read, but it doesn't seem to be going far when it comes to my development... I seem to have stagnated and want to break out again.

I also use pokertracker (I know, it isn't all that successful for NL games) and could use some help in looking at the information available in its database.

If anyone would like to work with me (I'd be happy to give feedback to someone else too, if they wanted to do a trade of sorts.) Of course, I would prefer quite an experienced player who has worked their way up the levels, but I would be a fool to pass up any help offered.

I should say that I am generally Tagg, sometimes Weak-Tight player playing the $5 tourneys on stars. My ITM has been over 40% for the past year (~600 tourneys), and my RoI bounces between 20 and 30 percent. My VPIP is 21%. I feel I am quite a solid player, but something is standing in the way of me making a real breakthrough, and I would find advice invaluable.

If interested, please pm me. I would post my hh's here, but I would very much like to get some more one-on-one help as to how I should be examining my hh's.

If your ROI is 20-30% what is the breakthrough you're looking for? That is solidly beating the game.

Taipan has done an amazing job recently of reviewing hand-histories. Use the trimmer and post one that is interesting in some way; you think you played well and won, you think you played well and bubbled out, had several tough post-flop decisions you're unsure of, etc.

Otherwise just post a couple hands where you thought you had to make a tough decision; am I too weak-tight here, etc.

It sounds like adjusting your play is the problem, not actually analyzing your play. It's hard to say what adjustments you should be making without a tourney.

If you post a HH and someone says a hand is "standard" or "easy fold" just ask why they said that, someone will expand upon the idea.

You could also read the NL HH's forum. Deep-stack NL ring theory is much more complex than SnG theory. Maybe what you're missing is there.

And, in case you're wondering I don't really want to personally review a HH. Ironically I'm too lazy to commit, but took the time to write this reply

20% roi is beating the game.. Move up and post some HH if you're running into problems.

Thanks for the help Swiggidy... the suggestions are appreciated.

Johnny Fish... I know what you mean that 20% is beating the game... I just feel like I should be more solid.... it feels like I have to rely on winning a coinflip to make the money, and I would much rather be more stable play wise. If that means loosening my starting requirements, or adjusting to other players better.... well, that's why I'm looking for help.

I know I have to understand EV better - I think I understand the concepts well, but can't use the knowledge except unconciously.... the only time I consider EV is really calling down a smaller stack's preflop all in... otherwise I don't think about it). So I need to incorporate that more, I am sure.

I would move up levels but for two things my bankroll is too small right now, and the last time I tried to move up I wasn't psychologically prepared to see double the bankroll hit when I lost a few in a row... it bothered me. I think I can handle it better now, but I am doubling my starting BR requirements ($400 for 10+1, minimum). Building my bankroll from $100 up to $400 at the $5 level seems to take forever playing 5-10 tourneys a week.

I have traded HHs with a number of players from both this site and elsewhere and it has been tremendously helpful to my game. There's nothing like a second opinion looking through your plays to question your decisions or highlight plays that you might think are standard but might actually be a leak.

Oh and as johnny said, a 20% ROI is certainly beating the game provided that it's over a large enough sample size (at least a few hundred SNGs). Anything less than that sample size could just be positive variance.
