    Default Poker Stars

Hey all. I've played poker on many different sites, with varying degrees of success. However, since joining here I've felt compelled to sign up with poker stars - which I did 5 mins ago

    A couple of questions

1 - what's the best way to get my bonus?

2 - what's the standard of play like?

3 - who should I watch out for at the $10 level?

    ps. my alias is 'elbaroni'

First of all good choice, pokerstars is great, full of fish and has a very nice rewards program.

The bonus will steadily clear playing sit and gos but if you're good at cash games thats the fastest way. Just don't try to play higher stakes than you can to try and clear it quicker.

Standard of play at the $10 level is terrible, so a nice tight aggressive approach will easily beat the game consistently. Just don't try to get fancy.

No specific names if thats what you're asking, you'll probably not recognise the people at your table even after a month of play.

    Good luck with it.

Generally tighter and better players in ring than other sites, but low stakes sngs/ring full of fish.

Played a $12 6 man sng there - my first on stars

Finished 2nd, and I was beaten by the player (HaSoJa) who I identified early as the worst at the table. He was more or less bank-rolled by me, with his A4 beating first my AJ, then 2nd my AQ.

Still, not a bad start - onwards and upwards.

This is true unless you say "All you can eat baby" before you push. This decreases the risk of the doomswitch by ~39%.

Assuming you got the full $50 bonus, you need to earn 500 FPPs over the next 6 months to earn your bonus. If you are playing SNGs, you will get 5 FPPs for every $11 normal you play, so you need to play 100 SNGs. I think of this as effectively paying 50c entry fee rather than $1 (so a $11 becomes a $10.50 with the same prize pool).

At the $11 normals, pretty fishy. Most players are either a) way too loose early and donk off their chips with TPNK and such or b) tighten up far too much shorthanded/as blinds get big and play way too scared. You might get 1-2 players who know what they're doing but those guys are relatively easy to identify (they start out tight and loosen up as the blinds increase).

Anybody who posts in this forum who plays Stars $11 normals - I won't give out their PS SNs but their FTR names are bruinblue, anarchoi, fasin8ing, maybe a couple of others.

Don't get sucked into the early looseness of the $11's. Keep tight early and you will make $.

I've now played 3 games on stars - all $12 6 man sngs. Not that its a great amount for a sample, but it gives me an idea of the interface, and I'm getting a general feel for the place.

I'm used to a much faster pace of play, as my regular game is 6 man turbos on betfred. I've therefore found I've had to curb my aggression somewhat, and as a result my end game play hasn't been as great as it could be.

I just won my first game - despite a horrific beat! I had A5 and the board was J-4-5 so I moved all-in. Opponent called with 22, and hit the A, followed by the 3 - guess it happens everywhere then

    Anyway, played 3

    1 - 1
    2 - 1
    3 - 1

    onwards and upwards

If it's already started, too late. If it hasn't started, then open the Tournament Lobby and there should be an unregister button there.

It hadn't started, but I couldn't find an unregister button the way there was in the sit & gos. Maybe I was within the gathering period or something though. Either way, I lost $22 as I had to go out. With my br I can't afford to lose $22 for nothing

I also spanked away $25 on an omaha ring game - I'm having no luck when i go outside of my comfortable sngs.

You can't unregister if it's 10 minutes or less before an MTT starts.

Next time, just sit out and email support ASAP and they will probably give you a refund. If they see that you sent the email before the MTT started and you just sit out the whole time, they will probably send you $22T. I have seen some posts on pocketfives about people winning a satellite to the million and then forgetting to unregister so they sit out the whole time and emailing stars and they sent them $215T.

Didn't work for me in the past.. They told me that I should just "try and play my best." I just went allin every hand and busted out ~10 mins (I knocked 2 guys out too).

edit - but then again I didn't sitout every hand, I registed for it when it opened then had to leave like 3 mins before it started.
