    Default Strange tactic?

I was playing 3$ speed at partypoker. One player went out quite fast, and one player doubles his chip stack, let's call him'villain'.

Now, the villain disconnects (or switches on away and autofold, posting blinds) and stays this way until 4 players are in the game and then he starts playing.

This seemed to be an easy way to get ITM and he even won that tourney. (I placed 3th, but was completely taken offguard by his 'tactic').

Is this really a good way to get ITM. If you double up fast, go AFK and wait till 4 players are left, or even maybe 3 and come back when you get a monster in your hands?

Just play smart poker. The number of opportunities you will miss out on makes this infinitely -ev.

    Don't be scurred.

Playing tight early gets you the best of both worlds - you effectively sit out and let the donks knock themselves out when you don't have a hand, but you're there to take their chips when you do.

The one thing to remember is not to start leaking chips if you get an early double up. That doesn't mean you can't paly a pot in the next 10 orbits!

If you get a double up early, and you want to stay out of trouble then play ultra tight up to the bubble. Then you don't miss out on opportunites but don't risk much.

So unless you get a preflop monster you should only see flops from the BB when limped to you.

I think better players use their big stack and grow it.
This is not my signature. I just write this at the bottom of every post.

Jman: every time the action is to you, it's an opportunity for you to make the perfect play.
