    Default Covering up cards

I've been experimenting recently by trying to play as many hands as possible on line blind by attaching post it notes to the monitor. Especially useful when on button/cut off or in small/big blind for raising/re-raising. Also quite scary. I would also continuation bet afterwards, if appropriate.

Obviously, I need to peep sometimes in case I end up misplaying premium hands. When I do win a hand, I still don't look to see what i won with.

The theory is that it teaches you to play position rather than the cards. Anyone else tried it or any views?

It's an interesting experiment, Barry. I don't get why you would do it in the blinds though? You have bad position there and shouldn't be looking to play very many hands from those spots.

I don't really get what you mean when you say you need to look to make sure you're mis-playing premium hands. How do you decide when to look?

I won a two-table tournament without looking at my cards. It was hilarious. Definitely teaches you aggression and position.

Exactly. Great fun and good as you say for playing position. Snyder recommends it. I give it up when down to final 3/4 though.

Show Me Atlas. I think you've misunderstood me. I'm just not looking at my own cards which, in theory, should help my opponents.

    Old school.
It's hilarious to me that back then I thought that it would be a waste of money.

I think about 6-8 weeks ago JeffreyGB posted a $22 normal SNG where he played blind the whole thing and still ended up 2nd.

Very interesting. I hadn't seen those posts. Where I think it has been useful (at least for me) is in late position to force me to raise with any 2 cards if first in and also to make me more aggressive if short stacked and, therefore, I suppose with pre flop play in general.

What do you mean about peeking?

How do you know when to peek? How do you know you have a premium? Am I spelling 'peeking' correctly?

I think peek is right - I used peep. What I was trying to say was that I was playing in the dark as much as I could pre flop so, if I was in late position and noone had come in I would raise from last 3 places without looking at my cards and then continue bet afterwards. BUT if there were limpers and I was on the button I would look then in case i had AA, KK,QQ or AK. In the small blind I looked so as not to miss a raising opportunity. In the BB, I would always raise SB if no one else had entered without looking and would call a SB standard raise without looking, again if no one else was in the pot.

Hope that makes sense. I've stopped doing it now as I think I've learned the lessons as regards positionand aggressiveness. The link to the previous post in January 2005 cover the subject in more depth.

In what sense? I'm not sure I like the word cheat. If you are saying that i did not play completely in the dark then i agree but i said that anyway. I don't call that cheating an, actually resent your use of the term.

I suggest we leave the thread there?

OK. Thanks. No sticky marks so far. Got severe backache though from continually leaning forward from my chair to peep under the post it note stcuck to the monitor.

Relieve your headache and improve your game by simply not looking pre or post flop. Open a sng for a level or two below what you are rolled for and try it completely blind. It is amazing what you'll learn. At a min, you should be able to make it close to the bubble.

I di this yesterday in two SnGs and learned a great lesson about the power of position from it.
I'd like to meet Jesus. Not because people claim he was the son of god, but because he could turn water into wine. A man like that is good to know, because you never know when you'll need a bottle of wine or an extra nail.
