Default SnG HH 1 of 24 - the Donking Begins

As the title says, this is #1 of 24 of my "low end of variance". Frankly I think it is me playing badly, not variance. I'm posting my own thoughts as well and I look forward to reading what you more experienced guys think I should do as well as your reactions to my comments.

The Tournament Trimmer (v0.7.6) was developed by JeffreyGB at http://www.FlopTurnRiver.com.

    ---Statistics---
    Data for 113 hands.
    You played 27 hands (23.89%).
You raised 12 times preflop (10.62%).

I'd like to meet Jesus. Not because people claim he was the son of god, but because he could turn water into wine. A man like that is good to know, because you never know when you'll need a bottle of wine or an extra nail.

    So my thoughts.

Dark Red means I think I played poorly.
Olive means I'm not sure how I played.
Green means I think I played well.

Hand 1 [Jd Ks] - I called b/c it was folded around with 1 limper in-front and I was on the button. I should have raised 3xbb + 1 per limper making it 80 to go. I would put myself in a position to make a large c-bet which I may regret. If re-raised on the flop, I fold.

Hand 3 [As Td] - If I'm going to raise PF on this then I have to fire the c-bet, especially on this flop with a check in front of me. I'm lucky I didn't lose that due to the cards or aggression by Rick C.

Hand 4 [Kh Js] - BB special that makes TPGK on the flop. I bet just over half the pot (half is 2.5xbb, I bet 3xbb) feeling I had the best hand. I don't know why I checked the turn. Either a) b/c it is my pattern to show weakness when I feel I may be beat (here by Qs or a straight) or b) b/c I wanted to check-raise. I doubt it was because I wanted to check-raise. I called his turn bet b/c if I won it would take him out and I felt I was committed.

Hand 5 [7c 8c] - Should have folded. Too many players and I am OOP to call with this.

Hand 6 [Ks Kd] - I should have re-raised PF to 4xbb. Calling the 3rd bet (his all-in) on the flop was bad play and I'm lucky he wasn't slowplaying AA the whole time.

Hand 7 [Qh Kh] - Blind steal on the SB limper.

    Hand 8 [7s As] - I dunno why I called. I should have folded this PF I think. I didn't and I got lucky.

Hand 9 [Jd Ts] - Should have raised or folded PF.

Hand 10 [4d Jd] - Dunno. These hands confuse me. Is checking down good or should I have bet on the turn to rep the King?

Hand 11 [4s 4c] - Trying to steal the blinds. Good defense on his part. Should I have called with PP-4s?

Hand 12 [ Kd 8 c] - M is low and the table has gotten very tight.

Hand 14 [5d 5c] - Blind steal attempt. Flop bet based on the lack of PF-aggression the villain showed and overall table tightness. This one also could have bit me in the ass.

Hand 15 [Qh Kh] - Positional blind steal.

Hand 17 [Td Kd] - I should have raised or folded. He probably did a blind steal on me.

Hand 18 [7c 7d] - Seems standard all around. Could I have played this better based on the action?

Hand 19 [9s 9d] - This is a tough one. I feel I have to make that call PF. On the turn I have to bet to find out where I am. I didn't psuh over the top based on being at the bubble. Should this have been played different?

    [6s Kd] BU (M=7.77; f+F) - Should I have pushed?

At this point I am getting stacked and trying to hang on.

    [As 5d] BU (M=3.83; r+F) - Push

Hand 23 [2c Kh] - I should have attempted a blind steal with a PF raise to 3x BB. I didn't b/c I am tightening up like shit on the bubble.

    [Ts 9s] BU (M=3.83; f+F) - Push?

    [9h Qh] UTG (M=2.76; F) - Push?

    Hand 24 [Qh Qs] -

    Hand 25 [3s Js] - Push?

    [5d 9c] SB (M=3.14; f+f+F) - Push
    [3h 7s] BU (M=2.83; f+F) - Push
    [3s 7d] UTG (M=1.58; F) - Push
    [6h 2s] BB (M=1.54; f+f+r+F) - Push

    Hand 26 [Ah 9d] - Standard

[5s Td] BU (M=1.94; f+F) - Push ESOBABY goes out on this and i'm ITM

    Hand 27 [Kh 5H] - Standard

So I hung on to go ITM, but also I played not to bubble rather than to win which probably cost me the opportunity to have more of a stack as we went to the final three.

Nice post. Making 24 of these would be excessive. After one or two there will be a lot fewer questions you have and you should be better at analyzing yourself. Then you can post individual hands, which will get more feedback than an entire tourney.

    Hand 1 - fold pf
Hand 2 - You have to raise more if you're raising, since AT isn't strong enough, fold
Hand 4 - fine, I would push turn just in-case he has the flush draw
Hand 5 - you're in position. I would like to see one more limper before you, but this is a multi-way hand so you want a lot of people in the pot
Hand 6 - re-raise pre-flop. As played you have to call his 3rd bet, your hand is unrepresented, you can't put him on specifically AA
Hand 10 - if he completes a lot, raise pre-flop. Betting 150 on the flop is fine
    Hand 11 - I don't think you can call

    Hand 17 - you got it, push/fold

I'm not going to comment on the rest cuz I'm not so good at pushbotting

    - So this is not a plcae to blind steal? I guess what's the point? Blinds are so tiny and if you get called you're committed to a bigger pot?

Yeah, a proper raise here would have been 5x BB (3xBB + 1 per limper) and ATo... ok, gotcha.

By push you mean hit it all in?

So you're saying I played this right?

    Makes sense.

150 on the flop for info to see where I stand? If I take it down then fantastic, and if not then what?

Hand 1 - if you're calling then you are not attempting a steal. By calling you're hoping to hit a J high or K high flop, but what do you do if someone puts a PSB out in front of you? In interest of chip preservation just fold.

    Hand 4 - I mean just put him all-in, bet 250

Hand 5 - It would be better if one more person had called before you, but as played it's fine.

Hand 10 - I wouldn't say "to see where you stand". I would say "to take down the pot". If he calls it's fairly safe to assume a T or an 8, or something else that beats you, so check/fold.

Since Swiggidy has already looked at hands 1-17, I'll do 18 and beyond. From playing lots of turbos I'm comfortable with pushbotting, plus Swiggidy's postflop play is going to be far better than mine from his experience at cash games!

Overall, you are missing WAY too many shortstack shoves. With <10x BB you should be shoving any two cards from the SB when it's folded to you, with <5x BB shove any two cards folded to you on the button and with <3x BB shove any two cards folded to you in any position. Sure, you finished ITM this time but by missing all these shoves you will have a disproportionate share of 3rd places. If you just manage to squeak ITM with a very short stack you will have very little chance of placing 1st or 2nd where the real money is.

    18. 77 - fold is fine I think. If opp had ~1500 chips or less you would have to call though.

    19. 99 - tough spot. I might consider pushing over depending on reads on opp. He won't call you wide here given you almost have him covered. Calling isn't terrible given that you're still reasonably deep stacked, though I wouldn't lead the flop with 2 overs that are very likely to have hit opp, I would check and see what he does.

    20. Q9o - depending on reads, shove it back in his face. If he has been raising your BB from the SB every time it's folded to him and now suddenly just completes, I would check, if he's been mostly completing I shove back.

    [5c Th] SB (M=5.14; f+f+F) - shove this
    [Jh 2s] SB (M=4.14; f+f+F) - shove this

    23. As per 22, I would shove back.

Of the following hands, the bold ones are all shoves:
    [5c 8h] SB (M=4.14; f+f+F)
    [Ts 9s] BU (M=3.83; f+F)
    [3h 5d] UTG (M=3.76; F)
    [Qh 3c] BB (M=3.70; r+f+c+F)
    [6h 3s] SB (M=3.14; f+f+F)
    [7c 3c] BU (M=2.83; f+F)
    [9h Qh] UTG (M=2.76; F)
[Jh Jd] BB (Folded to Hero.) - I hate this!
    [8h 3s] SB (M=3.14; f+f+F)
    [6d Js] BU (M=2.83; f+F)

    25. J3s - seriously you gotta start shoving back when he completes. I can see his pattern, he completes, checks the flop and leads the turn when you check behind on the flop. I'm sure he has nothing here.

    [5d 9c] SB (M=3.14; f+f+F) - shove
    [3h 7s] BU (M=2.83; f+F) - shove
    [3s 7d] UTG (M=1.58; F) - shove

    [5s Td] BU (M=1.94; f+F) - shove

    27. K5s - fine, I would call too with almost 1/3 of my stack in the pot already due to the BB.

Wooderson, you already posted this HH, when I was doing it for the second time some of the hands seemed curiously familiar...I'm happy to spend time reviewing HHs but you really ought to be more careful...

Bah.. I thought this was the third HH in the actual lineage. Thanks for pointing this out and I'm sorry for wasting your time on it. I really am. Thanks for not raking me over the coals though!

No worries man, everybody makes mistakes! I'll take a look at your other HH when I get a chance.
