Default Time to beat up the Gator

It has been a while since I posted a full HH and this particular tourney there were quite a few hands where I was thinking "should I push this one?" or "should I call that?". Personally I think I played horribly in this one. I just glanced over this and there are several hands that I wonder, in retrospect, why I didn't push with.

Thanks for the review guys (and Courtie)(and any other ladies out there).

The Tournament Trimmer (v0.7.6) was developed by JeffreyGB at http://www.FlopTurnRiver.com.

well...i've never really done any analysis..i just play the things, my only problem with this is hand 5...if you feel the need to get involved with K3s, just push, if not then fold. I dont believe he is making all that great a decision with QJo, maybe he'll call your push, not sure.

i dont like some plays here chief!!! anything i didnt comment on is fine.
Jman: every time the action is to you, it's an opportunity for you to make the perfect play.
  4. #4
    Hand 2 - I fold pf.
    Hand 4 - I don't think I ever fold here.
Hand 5 - Just go ai pf.
Hand 6 - Fold pf and it's not even close.
Hand 12 - Tough spot. You're never ahead of his range here, but with 1/4 of your stack in it almost compells you to call. I think a fold may be better here.
  5. #5
OK, I haven't looked at Goat's comments. Sorry to be harsh, but I do think there were some bad plays here.

    1. JTo - raise or fold preflop. I tend to just fold this. As played, I would bet the flop rather than checking.

    2. T9o - I fold this from the CO. If I was on the button or in the SB I would have raised it. Also, make it 150 to go, 150 folds out every hand that 200 does.

    4. QQ - bad fold IMO. Absolutely no way I am folding QQ here. You're getting like 3:1 on the call, and at a $16 you can't automatically assume that one or both of them have KK+.

    5. K3s - easy shove preflop. As played, absolutely you have to call.

    6. K7o - ugly. Easy fold preflop, even if opp has been LAggy. Why go to war with such a marginal hand?

[Tc Qd] CO (M=7.93; f+F) - if you were a bit deeper I would have raised this to steal, but stack size is awkward, I think folding is good here.

    8. AKs - with 12x BB I just open shove this from UTG. You're in a tight spot if you miss the flop and opp leads.

[Jh 6s] BU (M=4.45; f+f+F) - need to see the other stack sizes but this could be a shove

    12. QTs - read dependent on how wide you think he is shoving here. If he has any idea what he's doing he should be shoving very wide indeed with the big stack out of the way BUT not all players realise this. That said, this is a +EV call if he shoves more than 19% - therefore without a very solid read that button is super nitty I think it is a good call. Unlucky that he had a real hand here.

[5s Ts] BU (M=0.98; f+F) - I would just shove this, this hand has good suck out value and you're pretty much dead anyway.
  6. #6
Thanks for the input guys. I guess it is now time for a little explaining on some of these calls so we can discuss how to deal with those decisions in the future.

Hand 1 - Nothing to say as Da Goat is right here; either raise of fold and barring a read I think this is a raise.

Hand 2 - Yes, the table had been tight and the original limper, plus both blinds were weak/tight. Still a fold?

Best hand I played this tourney

hand 4 - WOW!!! I didn't realize how weak this was until I put it into Pokerstove. If you agree with the ranges below this could easily be the worst hand I played (even though I would have lost it).

    Hand 1: 48.8421 % 48.15% 00.69% { QcQs }
    Hand 2: 23.4009 % 22.46% 00.94% { 77+, A7s+, K9s+, QTs+, JTs, ATo+, KJo+, QJo }
    Hand 3: 27.7569 % 26.69% 01.07% { 88+, ATs+, KTs+, QJs, AJo+, KQo }

Hand 5 - Agreed, should have shoved pre-flop

Hand 6 - This one is one that I think we should discuss. Villian had made this move a LOT, including three times in the past 4 orbits. With that being said, what range of hands are you looking for to push back on and do you just call or push over his raise?

Hand 8 - Not sure, but I don't think I had been pushing hands yet, nor had the table.

Hand 12 - As much as I hate to say it I think I was on tilt here. Villian, who was the other short stack, purposefully waited every second he could on the hand prior to this before folding to my raise JUST to let the blinds go up before they hit me. So I think my thought process went something like - "Ok, bitch you wanna play lets go. As long as I have two live cards I will suck out on you, take your stupid ass down and call your mamma names when you leave."

Looking back I do think this is a clear fold.

There are a few other hands that I would like to get your thoughts on. I will post them when I get back to the house.

    Thanks again for the input.

That's the thing about thee Gap Theorem - the fact that opp had been stealing a lot still doesn't let you open up your range THAT much. In a vacuum I would say 55+, A8s+, A9o+ or something like that (all of which I would shove back in his face).

The other things not to lose sight of are:
    - You still have a good stack of almost 17x BB, why risk it on this marginal hand
    - You are OOP relative to the raiser
    - By calling the raise, you need to know what flops you are prepared to commit your stack with. K high? 7 high?

Against a super LAggy raiser, if my stack was much shallower (such that I have about a PSB left on the flop) I might consider a stop 'n' go here but probably still just fold.

    That makes sense. Thanks

    Agreed

Stack sizes are below (blinds are 100/200 and ante 25)
    UTG - 3335
    CO - 395
    Hero - 1890
    SB - 5535
    BB - 2345

Another question I have is regarding the following:

[As 7s] CO (M=7.47; r+F) -How close is this to a shove over the raise?

Fold unless SB has been playing super tight (ie calling ranges 66+, AT+)

Need to see the whole HH, how much the raise was to be sure, but in a vacuum this one is a fold for me. I think I need something like 77+, AJ+ to shove over here. It is read dependent on how LAggy the UTG raiser is though.

UTG was fairly LAGGY and I almost pushed. Wish I would have as you can see below (but that is probably being results oriented).

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t200 (5 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver)

    UTG (t2025)
    Hero (t2240)
    Button (t5760)
    SB (t2195)
    BB (t1280)

Preflop: Hero is MP with A, 7.
UTG raises to t800, 3 folds, BB raises to t1280, UTG calls t480.

    Flop: (t2660) 5, 9, T (2 players)

    Turn: (t2660) 3 (2 players)

    River: (t2660) 8 (2 players)

    Final Pot: t2660

    Results in white below:
UTG has 4h Ac (high card, ace).
BB has 4s 4d (one pair, fours).
    Outcome: BB wins t2660.

I think it is being results oriented. Save your chips for a good open pushing opportunity!

Pushing that A7s would have been real bad.

so I play about 10 hands VERY poorly yet the one hand I actually played correctly was the one hand that had I played it badly would have won. Figures.
