his first hand at the table after sitting out. felt like he'd have a wide range to raise pre so I hit the match-pot button and reraised again. then I saw the flop and again said, "shit..." but played another all in anyway.

    both of these spots suck

neither one of them is atrocious but I'd say they re both pretty bad. 1st one is easier to call. 2nd one is prob better to let him bet cuz if he s raising you post flop you re prob beat.
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?

on the 2nd one, I wasn't sure what to do if he bet and thought there's a small chance he has hands I beat that he'd check behind.
but if you check and he bets like 30, is the plan to check/raise, or?

Since he's a shorty check-raising isn't horrible. IMO it'd be pretty bad vs a full stack.

But the fun thing about smooth calling is you pretty much force him to commit his chips even when he misses the turn with pair+flushdraw type hands. C/raising AI allows him to flip with you instead of bluffing his chips off on a safe turn.
