Default Sunday Million.. take the coin flip?

Well this just sucks... I don't know if I made the right play. Is it correct to call off almost all my chips here, this early in the tourney? I was getting nearly 2-1 odds to call...

Looks fine. You have to take small edges in order to win. Villain is short and you could say that he could be pushing with a somewhat wide range here.

This is not a small edge. Folding here would be awful.

Didn't mean that this hand was a small edge, just trying to get the point across that even the smallest edges need to be exploited.

    Standard call.

Whether or not your AK hits for you is often the determining factor in how far you get in MTTs.

    What about AQ?

Hold on, what edge did you have, apart from having him covered? 55 is the more superior hand. Granted if another player also called, I would prefer your AK. Although the pot odds justify the call, the reality is do you really want to decide your tournament outcome on a coin flip? I think to win these things consistantly, you have to avoid the temptation of 50-50, and put your money in with a much larger edge.

As for the call, personally, I only play my AK all in pre-flop out of short stack desperation, or when it costs me less than 1/3 of my stack to call. So I would have been conservative and folded (retaining 6600). Heck, I hate to be up against flush draws with T&R to go, believe me.

But what makes this call good, is that you could possibly be up against another ace AQ, AJ - depending on the player, some can push with these hands.

With regards to AQ, lets see. Its assumed you win by pairing A or Q.
That means at max you are afraid of 6 hands: AA, QQ, the four Kx which basically means any hand with a K that could potential outdraw you, even if you hit the Q. Whereas with AK, you only fear 2 hands.

Although your at 3 times greater risk, the odds are still quite good, and if you can play AK that way, then you could play AQ that way also.

The bottom line is villain was short, and there are hands in a shorty push range worse than AK. Standard call IMO. I'm never folding AK here. Way too weak.
It's not what's inside that counts. Have you seen what's inside?
Internal organs. And they're getting uglier by the minute.

You have a major edge here because:

    1. His range is (usually) wide.
    2. He might raise AA/KK for less to try and get action, but mostly he will push. Still, this has to be considered.
    3. You already have good pot odds to call, so even if he has a PP lower than AA/KK you should call even if you know thats what he has.
    4. This will be ATs+, KQs, AJo+ a lot. You need to call.
