    Default £2.50 MMTs 250-400 entrants

    Hello. <3

I first asked for advice on STT's. I am grinding the £3.60 tables at Will Hill and turned £50 into £200 in a month or so. I enjoy the game and the level i am playing at, as its fairly easy to play ABC poker and sit back for the first few orbits letting people knock each other out. I change gears according to my M, and generaly play aggresivly enough to win most games i place in the money. I think I understand early and late styles of play in this 10 player SnG fairly ok for a beginner, and i enjoy the late game as most peole at this level get too defencive/passive.

I have read HOH one and two - and now i am re-reading them and taking notes.

The reason it bore you with details is this: every now and then i play a £2.50 MTT, usally after playing 2 or 3 STTs where i have made money and want to unwind - i like a gamble, and what i am doing with the STT is the opposite, trying to play each hand like i know what everyone holds.

So i will enter one, and put a film on or somthing. I sit back and play ABC poker, position, pot odds, hand etc. Heres the thing, i consistantly reach 10,000 or so in chips by the first break, say about %50 of the time. %25 im bust by then %25 i have 5,000 or less.

When the game restarts, i consistantly fail to build a stack. The blinds go up every 10 mins (70 mins 150/300, 80 mins 150/300 ante:25) not every 10 hands as i am used to, but i think the real hole in my game is this mid game period - it simply does not happen in STTs at my level, it goes early to late with a barly perceptable mid-game.

Basicaly so far, (with a very limited number of examples i know, but it is the ease with which i reach five figure in these games but fail to advance further which drive me to ask) i play either too loose or too tight and either bust out or get little and die. I even show a profit from these games as i tend to die in 10th to 20th place and get about 2 and 1/2 my stake back, disregarding one tourney where i placed 4th because there was a 4 way pot that one dude won on it all.

So... in a 150/300 ante:25 game, with blinds and antes advancing every 10 mins

    1) how do i play 10,000 with an M of 20, 15, etc at a table with BIG 25k plus stacks

    1) how do i play 5,000 with an M of 10 , 5, etc at a SHORT stacked table

I know these are idealised situations but it seems like the software puts the high rollers and SS's together when there are two tables left. Essentaily any mid game MTT advice from you guys would be cool <3

If you are big-stack use it. You want to be the RINGMASTER, BUlly the mid-stacks around and dont be afraid to gambol with short-stacks. As the big-stack my goal is too pick up all dead chips as I can and slowly build and knock people out.
Mind you, In late position dont try too bully with nothing, someone who's in the SB with less than 5 M. Because they are more likely to call you down with a higher range of cards. Play marginal hands in late position and you will be fine.
As a short-stack you want nothing but too double up. Dont be too tight and let the blinds eat your stack down where your bet wont even matter. Even at M of 5 your bet will drive people out. I would rather make a moves with hands like suitted gappers compared to A-rag or K-rag (Especially in EP with ace rag, more times than not you will get called and be dominated). So try to make moves with hands that have potential.

Addendum - move to the £5.50 SNGs - more prize money, LESS rake! You're good en0ugh and have the BR - leave the £3.60s behind.

lol thanks for that dude, i hadent noticed the £5 was a smaller rake... wtf thats about?

and thanks Slash.. i think i played too agressivly disregarding position a couple of times, which made me too timid the other times i was 10,000 stack i got scared and played too tight.

You explain it well - basically i am still grinding, but in a higher gear.

Always be aggressive but play more in position.

Always evaluate all stack sizes and try to adjust your ranges to that.

If you want to become a serious SnG player, move your roll to stars.

well, with my limited credit, i dont want a CC. Will hill takes my debit card so i will do with it for now.

Anyway, from a little research i have understood this:

    1) will hill £5.50 STT plays just as easy as £3.60 STT with a bigger profit

    2) All MTTs require alot of slightly +EV plays to place in the real money, making them not a good deal for beginners. Its alot easier to walk away from a single play where you were ahead and made the right call and busted out in a STT than an MTT where you were first in chips after five blind increaces and made the same kind of call

    3) i should keep doing ALOT of other stuff other than poker: chess, ultimate, ut2004, political theory, the structure of an STT makes me think of all these things in original ways
