I think the push is fine. You can push here with a wide range of hands since you are around 5bb and surely below 5bb after the blinds hit you. In addition, the blinds can only call you with a very strong hand since they are short as well.

my only concern was that if i get called i am dominated. i wud rather push with 87 suited here than ace 7

At some tables any two (if I have a tight image). You only have 5x Bb and you are about to be the BB. So I am pushing lots and lots.

In general, I am pushing any pair, any two cards that are both higher than 9, any connectors, one gappers, and two gappers 45 and higher. The Ax hand is my least favorite because when you get called you are so often dominated, but I guess at this point you are almost alwasy going to have around a 30% chance even if you are called by an A higher kicker so yeah I guess you need to throw Ax in the mix.
