    Default I hate this spot.

Villains running around 44/11 but dont know much else. Villains weak bet on the river is... so.. dumb... but this situation comes up atleast 10x a night for me. How do you deal?

    Absolute Poker
    No Limit Holdem Tournament
    Blinds: t50/t100
    5 players
    Converter

    Stack sizes:

    Hero: t2840
    SB: t5760

    Pre-flop: (5 players) Hero is CO with K J
UTG folds, Hero raises to t300, Button folds, SB calls t250 (pot was t450), BB folds.

    Flop: 3 Q 5 (t700, 2 players)
SB checks, Hero bets t500, SB calls t500 (pot was t1200).

    Turn: 7 (t1700, 2 players)
    SB checks, Hero checks.

    River: 5 (t1700, 2 players)
    SB bets t100, Hero ...

    Hero....

is behind, but opp isn't that strong, I'm guessing

Every once in a while, I man up and push over top here... but it's probably a -EV play in the long run. Opp most likely has a marginal pair that he thinks is good, but doesn't want you bluffing.

Push if you've got a read that he's weak. Fold otherwise. Tricky spot.

I look at my hand, realise I have nothing and that I can't even beat A high and know that he called on the flop with something.

You raise, you cbet, fine. Now he's called, shut down, preserve stack. Pushing is very bold, and will push off many hands that have you beat, but it just seems like an unnecessessary move in an SNG you should be crushing, without taking risks like this.

You're short handed. I open fold KJ from here and start concentrating on correct ICM play. I don't hate the raise with your stack, or the cbet, but after it is called I'm no longer interested because I have a nice stack and SB can bust me out. Plus 44/11 suggests calling station and you can't be sure your push won't be called by A high. (Ive seen worse).

Why take chances busting here when, now that we are here and with chips, we can press our edge and play for the money?

Eh, you make a good point but I wasnt even near the money yet. Absolute tourns end up shorthanded for a while before being consolidated.

I think you should include that information then. It looks like 5 players left in tourny to me.

If no sense of how many players and payout structure, how can we comment meaningfully?

I was looking for a general answer, not one specific to my tournament.

Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

There is no such thing. Late SNG decisions are ALL about stacks, how many to money and position.

Those things are more important than cards
