Very Interesting hand J-J

Im gonna explain what im thinking as we go... This was a very hard hand to play and very read dependent. Ive been playing with rock so I had a good read on him. This was one of the hardest hands ive played in a while.

ultimaterock bets 800. (This is a really strange bet, I didnt think he had the flush I put him on a pair of 8's with mid-high kicker trying to rep the flush)
Buckethead3 calls. ( I called mainly because I didnt think he was too strong)

Rock said he had A-8 and called me a donk because i got lucky catching the J on the river. Then I opted to ask him how the hell the non-club jack scared him on the river and he simply replyed " I put you on JJ" and I said Great Laydown. I was thinking if he put me on JJ he would of bet the flop and turn.

I would think that most would bet the flop when they have an Ace. However, I can't fault you for calling if you have a read. I would be hard pressed to not call your all in with A8.

A passive calling station wouldn't bet anything other than an Ace or better in that spot.

If we think he has any kind of hand, a v-bet on the river might make more sense here.
