    Default People calling my bet

I played two hands in a row (0.25/0.50 nl) and lost both hands because the other players had a flush. I think I made the right bet. I am a beginner, so I want to ask you if I played the hands correctly and just got unlucky.

First hand I flopped two eights and had one eight in hand so I flopped trips eigths. I saw the danger of the flush draw because the flop also confronted me with two clubs. So if someone had two clubs as hole cards I have to make a bet that will give him bad odds to call.

The pot was $5 and I made a pot sized bet ($5). So if the other player had a flush draw the call would be unjustified: he has to pay 100% of the pot while he has only has a 37 % chance of getting the flush. But he made the call (jack ten of clubs with no jack or ten on the flop and no straight chances for him), got the flush and took my money.

The second hand I got dealt AK, I raised pre-flop 4*BB. One person calls. Two of the three cards on the flop are hearts including the ace of hearts. Again I am faced with the the same situation, a possible flush draw. The pot is about $5 dollars and I make a $6 bet. Again I get called, the turn shows Kh and again I am beat by the flush.(the player had jth, no pair, no straight chances end played for the flush only)

After this I immediately left the table and stopped playing.

Did I play this hands correctly or did I do something wrong?

You played correctly, and never leave that table, if they are chasing and calling those bets, even when they hit, they lose. Not a player here would leave the table after that, that was your only mistake.

What happened after the flush came on the turn? This is the important part, not him calling the flop. If you have a full stack and pay off everytime he hits the flush you would have to bet over $10 into the $5 pot to deny implied odds.

If the $5 was the rest of your stack then they're calling because you're a shorty. Move down and buy-in for at least 1/2 a stack, if not full.

I bought in for a full stack ( maximum for 0.25/0.50 which is $ 50). The player who got the flush only had $8 left when the turn card was drawn.

The turn showed 3 clubs but I wasn't sure if he had the flush yet. He could be holding only one high club card. This would be highly unlikely because why would he call my bet on the flop if he had to hit a club card on the turn AND on the river? But to be sure I made a bet of $8 on the turn. This bet represented his whole stack.

Yeah you played ok but remember next time if you think a player has hit his flush then you should try and fold.

Two things here that are wrong. The pot is $5 and you bet $5. The pot is now $10, but he only has to pay $5 into it - so he is contributing 33%, not 100%.

But, fortunately, your 37% is wrong too. Although the odds of him hitting by the RIVER are 35%, the odds of him hitting on the turn are 19% - so his 33% represents significantly bad odds.

However, if he, or you, only had $5 left on the flop, then his call would be correct, because a showdown would then happen and so the odds of hitting by the river become relevant - he's betting 33% to win 35%, so it's +EV (in practice, the chance of you having one of the suit is probably enough to take away his marginal +EV, but either way, his call would be fine).

bottom line is people chase flushes. slam their odds on the flop, turn, etc. if it hits, slow down. if it misses, bet small on the river, and watch them fold.

dont do this with air. in hand 2, you look like you had TP, tough one. and with trip 8's, you still had more outs (10) to a better hand, variance.

just be careful about paying off the flush cards once they hit. this is where your reading ability comes in handy, or gets sharpened.

and jyms was right on, NEVER LEAVE THAT TABLE OF DRAW CHASERS. you will get you money back from them soon enough.
LHE is a game where your skill keeps you breakeven until you hit your rush of random BS.

Nothing beats flopping quads while dropping a duece!
