I guess the correctness of the play depends on your table image, but in any event I don't really like it. Your shove meant you either had a monster, but more easily a bluff. If he's straight-drawing he either hit the straight or he hit the J. If he called close to pot twice he'll probably do it a 3rd time. In any event, nothing that you beat will call you, and you certainly won't fold out a T or J.

cause the J is likely good for his hand is definitely not a scare card. He may fold but I dont thnk enough to make this good

But his range is like Tx, 89, Q9, all which he is folding, and then like Jx which hes folding here a lot.
So you don't think he raises the turn with something that helps his hand on this board?

My note for JohnBaker21 is 'Da Stacka'. Whenever I sit at a table with him he has at least 2xbuyins in front of him, often 3 or more and if he doesn't...he soon does.

Your river push is almost certainly a bluff but against this guy this may be a good move. In my experience he's cognizant enough to multi-level so he may fold some decent hands, against most though I think it's spew.

Not many people at our level (Nl100) are good enough to lay down top 2 or a set to this push, not to mention some still stack with TPTKish. You do gain value from the AK is the nutz guys though, not to mention all the smaller PP bluff catchers. I just don't think you see those hands turn up enough at this level in this spot to make the move flat out profitable. I do like it for your image though if you show. I can see your river pushes getting a lot more action after this play.

Ultimate verdict...it depends. I wouldn't pull it unless I thought villain was decent enought to multi-level at least a little.

    I like it.

What does he have that doesn't raise the turn and has an easy time calling?

edit : just because he makes a crying call doesn't mean it's a spew.
when the vpip's are high and the value bets are like razors, who can be safe?

No one ever should lay top two or a set to this push. they should lay down Jx though (Of course unless I'm playing against sauce123, then sauce should insta call.)

I would have a tendency to look this up if I were him. It looks like you missed your flush. I never seen anything special from him, although I only have 400+ hands on him, he's running -13.29 ptbb/100. Is this one of those spots where you turned your hand into a bluff??

As opposed to AA-99, JT, J9, which I play the exact same way?

heh, you may even sometimes win if you get called

BLuffing with showdown value - it's an interesting topic, maybe even worth a separate thread....

I don't like it. Laggy regulars make big calls and no obvious draws missed. His call on a dry flop and another call on the turn make me want to give up. Its going to be hard to sell KQ or a set and get him to fold whatever he's got.

From what he's seen of you, when you have overpairs or tptk, do you usually bet it this hard? How about sets? How does he play monsters in position? He's not floating you after the turn.

Redgrape, my notes on JohnBaker arrreee:

"Doesn't fold. LAG. Value-bet him to death."

Not sure I would have the balls to 3-barrel him (since he isnt good and doesn't fold), but this is a nice spot to do so with the flush missing and the board texture.
