Default QQ in BB, raised and re-raised

Impression of MP2 is that he probably raises more than his fair share. Button arrived not too long ago, so no impression yet. Too early to risk it all with QQ, right?

Whoa, I didn't notice that the HH converter messed that up. It's actually a tourney game. I wish I was good enough to be playing 6000NL.

Interesting. I would have thought that the raise-reraise before it got to me would have dissuaded some people from getting it in here. I figure one of these guys had AA or KK.

I folded. MP2 had KK, Button had AJs.

As I reach up to pat myself on the back the flop came QQx. Oh well.

How can you be so certain? Depending on the players, you can put them on a range like AQ+, TT+. Some, as shown in your hand, maybe be even wider since there are so many bad players this early in the tourney.

The thing is you can't put the original raiser on a real tight range since his only action so far is just a pretty standard first in preflop raise.

The button's push is also not that scary against your QQ. With his stack his range is easily something like 88+, AJs+. QQ is ahead of that range. So you sort of have to push to isolate.

People don't remember these hands when they push and win. You only remember when you push and the opp shows KK/AA and you say to yourself, "see I knew I shoulda folded."

Or he folds and he says, man I would have flopped quads. Was that a bad fold?

Thx char-- that puts things into the correct perspective for me.

It wasn't even that-- I was more surprised that MP2 had me beat when I expected the button to turn over AK at least. Then I got to wondering if we really had a reasonable expectation of tripling up vs getting knocked out when the blinds weren't that high just yet. OTOH it's still quite early so there are plenty of really bad players left to push in with 88+ and AJs+ as Char mentions-- which I didn't consider nearly strongly enough. I'm still very new to tournies and these situations are the ones that have me confused. I made the right fold in the "Fundamental Theorem of Poker" sense since I did fold to an overpair, but as I am finding out I didn't make the consensus best play and now I understand why.

Nice reply. Sounds like you got it.

Harrington's chart says with a raise and a reraise in front of you, only play AA, KK, or QQ.

But, I'll admit it still isn't an easy decision for me to play so early in the tournament.

Also something to consider is a lot of people don't play AA or KK the way the button played it.
