Default lol My housemate is getting crushed right now on 2p2

Here's the cliffnotes of what happened: we were playing 200NL last night he was involved in a $1350 pot (AA vs KK vs QQ 3 biggest stacks at table), he makes a deal with them, giving up 5% of his equity, he posts it on 2p2 and now he is getting destroyed. Come laugh at him

Wow, that boggles my mind but maybe it shouldn't.

But seriously, why is he even thinking about deal making in a cash game against fish when he gets it in with the best hand? Isn't that the whole point of playing that juicy game? - to get it in good and take all their money? I don't get why he's giving them their money back when he has it in about as good as he is ever going to get it in.

Wow...k now im speechless. Why the hell is he thinking about equity? It's a live game, it's not like you're going to see another 400 hands against these fish and have tons of other spots where you have them hand over hand.

    K guess im not speechless.

I actually don't understand why everyone flaming. He makes a good point, when you are playing out of your bankroll, it is ok to sacrifice some EV for lower varience. His decision to do that wasn't horrible.

Think about it this way (this might not be the best example). You're one who wants to be a millionaire. You have 125k going for 250k, you've used your 50/50 so it's narrowed down to 2 questions. You are 60% sure what the answer is, do you guess that since it's +EV? No, you take the 125k because you'll never get this chance again and because 125k is wayyy more than the money in your bank account.

More importantly, did his hand hold up or is he a genius in disguise?

It held up, turn was the 7s though giving KK more outs. If he made the same deal on the turn he would have gained some equity.

That's the easiest chop in the world with his money, people on 2p2 are retarded.

    Waiting in the shadows ...
    .77 * 1351 = 1040

    1351 - 240 - 139 = 972

    1040 - 972 = 68

So he only lost 68$ of equity.

    No hindsight for the blind.
Didn't read the whole 2p2 thread. If you don't have any more cash with you and cant borrow it's okay I guess.

One more thing to factor in is the added value of one of the others having a big stack when they suck out. They'll have a chance to suck more money out of someone else, money which will ultimately find its way into my pocket.

2p2 people are only considering chip EV and not utility EV. The fact is that for most people who win 6 buyins, the first 3 will mean the more than the second 3.

Most poker players will say that in a cash game, just as in life every chip is worth the same amount, whereas in a tournament every chip you earn is worth a little less than the one before.

Thats pretty obvious bollocks if you ask me. Rich people throw money around all over the place on all sorts of crap. Poor people are far more careful with money. $20 means alot more to some guy living on the streets than it means to say... Bill Gates.

You also have to consider factors like being able to move up in stakes for a higher hourly earn if you win 77% or if you win %72 but not if you win 0%.

Last of all its theoretically possible to sit in a 2NL game for a couple of days and build up your $50 roll to $1000. People saying theyd be happy to meet another big stack and get allin for with a 60/40 edge because poker is all about +EV are either lying or stupid.
Win it and you can move to 100NL (if you're good enough). Lose it and you go back to 2NL. Make some sort of deal and youre at 50NL on your way to 100NL. The deal is clearly the way to go.

Its obviously much better to just run it a few times rather than give up EV but the deal isnt terrible.
gabe: Ive dropped almost 100k in the past 35 days.
