Default How NOT to play the fish at the table

Don't think is near a bad beat hand but instead how to ply a hand like a donk and get beat by the fish.

My initial check post flop was to trap this person. Instead...I turned into a major fish and swam upstream right to where I deserved...into his boat. OMG I hate playing a hand so bad.

I guess an AI on the flop was the right play?

Why did you play like a fish? Cuz you lost the hand?

Man, you played it fine. The last thing you want here is for the villain to fold - with a short stack and trips you want to be all-in, even if you have to reduce your own chances by playing slower than you'd like.

No not because I lost the hand. That's fine. I don't think checking the flop with my stack was a good move. I needed the chips in the worst way. I should have gone AI after the flop and MAYBE the SB would have folded.

My point is maybe trying to trap here was a dopey move.

I can't figure out what he has that makes him a fish if you lost this hand.

Going all-in on the flop is playing it like a fish, just bet 200 and bet the rest of them on the turn.

    K2....not calling him a fish....

After I played this hand my initial thought was I completely blew it. At this point in the tourney I needed the chips that were already in the pot. Moving AI after the flop might have been a better play here.

i dunno if you played it wrong. if the guy was a bonafide SS fishbowl... he mighta called your AI on the flop anyway. And you would end up with the same result. IMO, thats the kinda board that a fish would think "he's bluffing"... especially if the fish is the big stack.

but thats a dreamy flop for a BB in your spot. i dunno why he doesn't raise from the SB.

i think anyone woulda played it just like you. i'd chalk it up as "thats poker" and let it roll off. don't change your SnG game cuz you think you made a fishy play. that's exactly how to over think your way to a losing streak.

you call him a fish twice in the OP.

when you're ready to stop posting bad beats you'll start getting better. You don't need the 200 chips in the pot, you need to double up. If he had rolled over AT here would you still have come and post about how bad you played it?

Just to be clear, moving in on this board is absurd and a terrible, scared play. This isn't close, it doesn't depend. Should you bet vs check is an interesting discussion. Whether or not you should lead for 6x the pot to prevent him from hitting a two outer is not.

You did, but you needed to double up far more.

At this point slow playing a near perfect flop and risking the SB catching a miracle is a far better option than just taking down the blinds and getting your chips in on a 50/50 soon after which is the most likely thing to happen.

For what its worth Id have checked the flop, bet 200 on the turn and pushed river - anyone in your position is going out.

Time to load up the next one - or take a break if needed
