Default Question of a hand i played

    Hey fellow poker guys!

Recently i entered a 22 dollar buyin, 5K GTD MTT on partypoker. The hand took place when there was 41 players left out of 343. I had about 22000 chips and the blinds were 800-1600. I was UTG+1.

    Things to consider:
    - 40 players got payed, 41 left.
    - Starting to get shortstacked

Ok, so i looked down at my cards and found AK of clubs. Great i thought!
So i raised roughtly 5k. The board went around folding to a guy with a big stack and known to trow them all in with a decent good hand or any pair hoping to win the pot.. Ofcourse he raised me all in. I took him on a any pair, and since he played many allins, i didnt take him on KK/AA.
Though, i knew this could me it, and not finish in the money, and i also knew this would be a coinflip, i called. I would have had 44000 and a good shot at the final table.

He turned out to have 9d9s

    Flop came out:3sAhAs
Great i thought, now he needs a nine, im atleast 10 to 1 overdog!
    Turn: 2s
Not bad, though now he has a flushdraw too..
    River: 8s
He hit his flush, sending me out of the tournament with nothing, 41 place.

So, should i have waited, trown this hand away?

easy call, for the reasons you give. The fact that you're about to be ITM is not relevant unless you think he's changing his play because of it.

    welcome to FTR.

    Try not to post results.

Pot odds to make the call. 1600+800+800(antes)+5000+22000=30200
    costing you 17000 to call
your pot odds are 1.77 to 1

You ranged him as aggressive so you have to include AQ in his range and possibly AJ and you always have to include a little bit of he may be tiliting due to any number of things and there is no way you ever get away here.

Making the money is not relevant to your decision. If you ever turn down such a positive ev call, you can kiss all chances of being a winning player goodbye.

    Cheers

I think I'm folding here about 0% of the time and calling somewhere in the range of 100% of the time. Playing a tournament is not about making it into the money, its about winning. Calling gives yourself the best chance of winning, for the reasons the above posters have mentioned. I have bubbled tourneys numerous times, but as long as they are good decisions I have no problems with it.

As a side-point -- if I am the big stack, I am putting you in with a lot worse than 99 on the bubble here. If I have you pegged as a weak tighty who will fold, I'm putting you in. Once you put chips into the middle of the pot, those are MY chips (at least until the bubble bursts).
