Default Char's semi-annual request for guidance

Ok - as most probably know, I am the worstest ftr long(ish) term member at BR management.

After crashing down to basically nothing I have once again resurrected myself and have a current BR between 9-10k.

I am going to probably be playing a little less frequently in the next month or so (wife's graduating, quitting work, moving to Cali, vacation, etc.) but then I foresee myself having lots and lots of time to play (no job, just studying for the CA bar and then after the bar probably playing full-time until I get my results a couple of months later).

I would like to get my roll back up to 10k+ and then since we will be somewhat crunched for funds I will probably be needing to cash-out 1.5k-2k per month so I want to be making at least that much.

I am looking for guidance as to what is the best method for me to achieve this.

not play MTTs, I think trying to grind X a month playing MTTs is crazy, and that number seems huge to me. You'd need to run at around 20 % even if you had your whole roll on the line each month and I don't think you can play that much.

Play 1-2 SNGs tables and 1-2 MTTs (or however many tables you play)?

I guess play a lot on UB, maybe AP or some other smaller sites so you can get smaller fields. look for weird tourneys like the Pot Limits on PS that tend to get less entries - also the 6 max tourneys on stars are smaller. And sats, there are lots of smaller sats on stars.

Given your history and the need to cash out, I would look more at a 150x rule, so play FOs 75 and under, and 10 RBs on down, and see how that goes for a month or two before you play any higher.

What about the $50 90 man SNGs on Stars? Would that be a good builder for Chard considering the size of his roll?

    Edit: I just looked and I don't see the 90 man's anymore. But, I do see a $77 63 man.

the big SNGs are a good thought, FT has some too, I think they are deep stacked.

You are far too good an MTT player not to play MTT's. Play stuff within/under your bankroll. Madness, sanity, maybe some of the late-night stuff on stars and tilt. You know from your recent win how ridiculously soft the 24+2's on tilt are. Play for an early double up and then go char-style on those fools sitting there folding their blinds.

I need guidance to... atleast i am not the only one on FTR who has shit bankroll management skills... *Sigh* I am taking a week or so off to focus on finals and then I will hopefully rebuild a MTT roll via 22 and 33 SnGs on FTP, and then actually not fuck everything up this time.

Yeah - I'm not planning on giving up MTTs. NL cash is too spewtastic for me (I have never been able to plug the "there's no way you can call this bet" leak). So I plan on multitabling MTTs and probably going back to adding some limit games if I have open spaces (I know limit is not where the money is at, but it's my best cash game and for me takes little to no thought now).

My plan for now is to play the $10 rebuy on Stars (madness), the $10 rebuy on Tilt (sanity), some of the $24+2 guarnateeds on Tilt, and then add some smaller size toruneys like the 90/180 man SNGs on stars or some of the donktastic bounty tourneys on UB. As for big tourneys, I (sigh) think I will just have to bite the bullet and not play them until I get the roll back up to 20kish. My only Sunday tourney for the near future will probably be the Bodog guarnatee for $100.

    Yeah that.

By nature of MTT's, you slowly lose money until that one time you finish in the top 5 and win a bunch which more than makes up for everything. But if you're playing tourneys like Rebuy Madness with 1500 entrants, where even if you're really good you'll make the Top 5 less than 1% of the time, and you need to withdraw money every month...it won't work.

You don't have to give up MTTs altogether but the big rebuys and the tourneys with 10K+ for first are just not what you need right now. Play as many tourneys as you can that have about 200 runners and maybe 2K for first or so - the daily rebuy on Absolute, the $75 tourneys on Full Tilt, the $33 double stack on Stars, etc.
