Metal!! \m/ o_O \m/
I just changed the strings on one of my guitars. I think the old ones were .049-.011, and I wanted to get something heavier this time. So I got a set of .068-.012's. That E string is sooo fat, I think it's thicker than the G-string from a medium bass guitar set. I didn't have the guts to tune it to E, fearing that the neck might snap, so I tuned to D. I also tried dropping the bottom a tone, and even tried drop-B. The monster strings ate it all like a deep-fried dead baby. I haven't re-set the intonation yet, seeing as the bridge is a floyd rose (rip-off) that task is probably going to be a major PITA.
Obviously the guitar is a total b**ch to play now. Soloing is much harder than I'm used to (I can rip out fast licks easier on my acoustic right now) but the fatter sound is totally worth it.
Setting the Flextone to "rectified", cranking it up and riffing out some Pantera makes it feel like there's fire burning behind my eyes. Now if only I could afford/had space for that Mesa/boogie full stack!
