    Default Newbie SnG Review please

I started playing Poker three weeks ago and really like it so far. In the moment I am a lot more succesfull at small stake SnG's than at cash games and consequently prefer them. After finding your excellent site/forum I started reading a lot of posts (strategy and reviews) and finally decided to post a tourney of my own.

If someone more experienced than me (not difficult) could review the SnG I would be grateful.

(Please excuse any errors in grammar and spelling - not a native speaker)

Default Re: Newbie SnG Review please

First of all, welcome to FTR!!!

Secondly, congrats on finishing ITM on one of your first tourneys.

    Now on to the review!!!!

Hand 1 - You could have called this pre-flop as long as you played "set it or forget it", however in this case (with the original raiser still left to act) I think a fold is the right move.

Hand 2 - Your flop bet doesn't need to be a pot sized bet here. Make it 450 to go on the flop. Also, what read did you have that told you villian would fold to your push on the turn? Personally I would not have open pushed the turn after his smooth call on the flop. If you are behind in that hand you could potentiall be drawing dead (if he had AQ or KQ) or be drawing to 6 outs. If you check and have to fold you are sitll in good shape. Don't go too crazy that early in the tourney on a stone cold bluff. Nits will call you down with bottom pair.

Hand 3 - I don't think this call from the button is horrible, but be VERY careful playing hands like this. You ablolutely must be willing to let it go if an Ace hits due to yoru kicker.

Hand 5 - HUH? 95s is a TERRIBLKE hand to be blulffing with. Check pre-flop and when he checks on the flop put out a pot sized bet.

Hand 6 - I am folding KJo against a raise when I am out of position the rest of the hand. Nice bet on the flop when you hit trips though.

Hand 9 - fold pre-flop. Your hand is MUCH too week to call a raise with, much less push. You just showed the table that your are raising with speculative hands. A savvy player will notice this and your raises will get less respect in the future.

Hand 10 - This is where your habit of majorly overbetting the pot got you in trouble. I am not sure I could have gotten away from an overpair on that board as I would have bet about 1,500, villian would have pushed and I would have reluctantly called. My point here is not related to that specific hand, but to your tendency to MAJORLY overbet pots.

Hand 11 - I am check/folding on that board. There is WAY too much trouble out there for me to like 2nd pair.

3 J[/b] SB (M = 0.00; f+f+F) - A push here is +ev unless the BB would call with a range of 22+,A2s+,A3o+,KTs+,KJo+,QJs or worse, which is unllikely on the bubble.

Hand 14 - I would have pushed pre-flop. Don't give villian the chance to hit the flop.

    3 8 BU (M = 0.55; F) - Push
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

    Hand 1
Fold is fine. Only other option is to call and hope for a set but in a re-raised pot your better off making a fold this early.

    Hand 2
Huge bet could get you into trouble often here. Tone the bet down because on a rainbow board you are not representing that you have a hand to protect vs a draw. Smaller bet like 1/2 the pot or a little more is the better option. Then after he called huge on the flop with no draw you got to drop this hand. Hit the brakes, it’s early we still have plenty of chips and plenty of time.

    Hand 3
Fine. You can afford to see this flop as long as you know that this is more of a drawing hand then a hand where you want to hit an A.

    Hand 5
Don’t like it. We got 8 players left and at this point are playing for 3rd. To early to make this move I think.

    Hand 6
Pre flop call is ok. I know there’s a flush draw out there but with the raiser behind I think we make a weaker bet and hope he has like 99 and puts us to the test or c-bets. You seem to be consistent with your bets but there consistently too big I think.

    Hand 7
That sucks. Another huge bet but for a good reason.

    Hand 9
Don’t like this at all. You have to remember we are playing for third. Winning is good but third is a win and cashing is how you build your bankroll. Once he raises you should be done with this hand. Your behind any hand he raises with in that spot. Nice suck out but that play isn’t going to do much for you in the future.

    Hand 10
This is where your huge bets hurt. Good flop for you but just make a nice sized bet. He will probably raise and then we get a bit suspicious. Not saying you could fold but you definitely would proceed with caution. Once Q comes it may slow down the action and save you some chips.

    Hand 11
Dont bet this flop. You have 2nd pair with a gut shot. 3 hearts out there though. If you bet your getting called by a J or any solid heart. Just check the flop and re evaluate on the turn.

    Hand 12
    This is ok.

    Hand 13
    Not that bad.

    Hand 14
Easy boy. Everyone at the table is sure your crazy with those huge bets I call you with a six in this spot. And it’s not quite time to get desperate.

    Hand 15
Good call in the money. Bad luck.

    Hand 16
You dont have a choice here.

    Overall
Your bets are too big. I understand that you want to get as much money in there while you have the best hand but, as we saw with the 10 10 vs JJ hand sometimes you won’t have the best hand. Also with the continuation bets with AK.

Thanks for the replies. I will try to keep in in mind and not overbet the pots so much.
