    Default SnG vs MTT

I usually play the PS 180 player SnGs. Isn't that a MTT? Does it really matter which forum I post in then, or does MTT generally mean 300+ players?

...Just a semantic nitpick -- I notice a lot of SnGs people post are from 9 person SnGs which obviously is a considerably different game than a 20 table start.

A SnG starts when every seat is filled (and a limited number of seats). MTTs start at a specified time.

I understand that, but in terms of strategy, a 180 person SnG would be no different to a MTT that just happened to have 180 people sign up.

I assume the two forums exist because there's different strategies involved for the larger tournies, right? So what is considered 'large'? 1000 players +? Is 180 still relatively small? Or is that a huge SnG / small MTT?

    MTT's are a multi-table tournament. So technically even a 2-table SnG is a MTT. Likewise, a 180-man SnG is a MTT.

People get SnGs and STT's (Single table tournament) confused a lot because STTs are the most common form of SnGs.

More of the higher buy in MTTs usually have around 180-200 players.

The tournaments with over 1000 players are huuuuuge fields of an MTT, but do not hold the definition of a MTT.

post 180 in MTT, the 45 seaters are close. Anything lower should be SNG.

    I would agree with that.
Poker is easy, it's winning at poker that's hard.

Yeah, less to do with technically correct titles, and more to do with area of expertise of the posters.
Just dipping my toes back in.
