Default Players, post your "checklist" if you will here.

Of things you do away from the tables, when all the dealing is done, to improve your game. I'd like to get a general idea of what everyone is doing in order to construct my own "checklist", for example, some may consult some kind of sng software after their sngs sessions, if so jot it down as one of the many things on your check list.

    Thanks!

I have an excel file where I keep record of what place I came in, how much profit, etc. The basics. But what really helps me is that I make time to write a comment on each game, win or loss, about questionable hands, bad play, something I cudda done better, etc. and I force myself to go back to the HH and copy/paste those hands to the comment. It's like a little poker diary. Even though you know what you did wrong, sometimes you do it anyway another game, but by stating the problem and actually writing it down and thinking about it, for me atleast, it occurs less often.

I plan to run tournies thru SNGPT once I buy it soon.

    1.) Read FTR
2.) Post some hands (sometimes a full tourney, most of the time nothing, I should do this more)
3.) Work out some of my more marginal pushes/calls I think of (probably should do this more as well, but I don't have SNGPT or Wiz, so I have to do them by hand)
4.)Keep track of my SnG's via Excel (I don't have PT)
    5.) Profit maybe.

P.S.-I know I am a cheap bitch and won't buy those programs, I probably should.

I'm really working hard at improving my game atm. After every set of 4 games, I am reviewing each SnG in wizard and PT. I look at every hand in the wiz at the moment and fiddle about with ranges and blind levels, so I don't just look at the cautions and errors. Then in PT I load the hands and go through the earlier rounds. Watching with known hole cards exposed lets you see whether you gave a free card when you shouldn't have, gave opp the right odds to call etc.

It's improving my game way faster than just the "experience" gained by grinding.

Finally some real responses, but for you guys who haven't brought any software to keep track of your sng sessions, I advise you to check out www.pokertracking.com it's free and it's chalk full of win and awesome.

Can you give me a quick overview of what pokertracking is, and what it does and if it is worth the space on my computer and all that?

I am glad people are responding to this question, because it helps me to focus. I haven't really taken my poker "career" as serious as I should and this will help me take the steps away from the tables to advance.

Ugh it's 5:40 in the morning, gotta get ready for work , maybe one day this game will be my work? lol that's a longggg ways away though.

It's freakin pretty awesome. Here's a quick breakdown:

    1. You create a profile, then your ledgar - kinda like a checking account where you input your intial balance, e.g your bankroll amount.

    2. then you can set up your basic filters, say if you are going to be playing 5.50 sngs, you can have it where you put that information in so when you go to click create a session it populates it automatically.

    3. Then you just start adding sessions each time you start a game, then you can go back, put what place you finished, and even add notes! I usually post the hand I bust on in the notes session.

    4. the more you do this the better it paints a picture for you of what your best game is and what isn't. Like the money I put in my account to fool around to get back into the game, I lost most of it fiddling around with MTT's but when I filter my sngs, it shows I am making a small profit.. It displays charts for you also, not to mention it shows your win rate, ROI, etc.

It's truly a great, you don't have to download anything btw, it stays on the website and it's free. And no they aren't paying me to advertise it, I found it by googling a long time ago and still use it today.

Oh and the ledgar keeps track of your bankroll balance as you add sessions also. Ok I have to get ready for work, I wish I could access this site there damn it

buying PT is the single best use of $55 you'll ever make, save from a colombian lap dancing bar.

Don't even consider it an expense, rather, an investment which will earn you lots of return.

I thought PT was good for only cash games? How good is PT in keeping track of SnG progress and can you make notes on SnG's?

Poker Tracker is good for all texas hold'em games. You can get Omaha and Stud versions too.
I don't know about adding comments to a specific SNG, but you can add comments to a specific HH.
