Default Pushing OOP with a crap hand, $22

I've seen some players I respect pushing extremely wide w/ 4 BBs UTG when this is essentially of last chance of having FE.

    a) As we are pushing UTG, our villains have to call with a fairly narrow range.
    b) If we lose 1 BB, we will have very little FE if it is folded to us in the SB - this is quite likely and having much more FE is greatly helpful here.
    c) Meh, we may suck out...?

Is this pure spew or does this play have some merit?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is $600 (5 handed) by Hand Converter CG

    saw flop|saw showdown

    BB ($3320)
    Hero ($2420)
    MP ($3520)
    Button ($4340)
    SB ($6400)

Preflop: Hero is UTG with 9s, 8c.
    Hero raises $2420 (All-In)...?

With blinds that big I'm almost sort of happy with pushing this. You will take it down often enough to make this a good push imo, and 98 isn't the worst hand in the world for sucking out, as you'll rarely be dominated.

To sum up, I like this, but I hate sit and gos that reach this sort of stage.

I agree with topsoyale, I don't mind shoving this. Stack sizes are also kind of nicely set up, nobody apart from the SB can really call you with impunity.

I thought you had a crap hand.

Compare how their range does K9 (which I assume you would instantly move in here) with 98.

This is better than shoving UTG in this spot with a weak ace or king. NH

Do yourself a favour and never play at Party Of course, if you're US, you may not have a choice...

Glad to see that you all thought this was a good push. The Wiz was not impressed, but I think the fact that it sets us up for some very +EV pushes in the future makes it worth the difference.

With stack size all at the range of 5-1oBB there is very little future to plan to, you need to survive the present.

In this case you have to push pretty much either that hand or the next one, so 98 is a decent hand, since it has a decent chance against 'standard' calling range
