Default Facing a Pot bet with second pair+SD

I run into players that like to bet "pot" quite often. I never know how to treat the bet. Are they strong and don't know how to get value? Are they defending two pair or over pairs? Did his AJ+ miss? I know the majority of my answers should come from PF analysis. This time I folded second pair + SD... I know, I know I shouldn't have, but I did. (UTG was very tight and aggressive + I was chip leader).

How do you guys generally treat "pot" bets with a pair? two pair+? FD and SD?

good fold, i wouldn't even be thinking about calling here. The caller could easily have a flush draw (there go two of your outs), UTG+1 smells like a set or 68s (there go the 9s as outs), you are not drawing to the nut straight, you only have middle pair and no kicker, save your chips here to use them to win the tournament later... umm. other reasons abound.

Insta-fold. in fact, why you even playing this hand? fold pre-flop

same thing that I asked myself when I went to review my game... answer: undisciplined. I like trying new hands on the button when I know I shouldn't. I convinced myself that the pot odds were good, knowing good and well that I need to instafold lol.

(i did use those chips to win later yay lol)

Just thinking about 8 9 offsuit makes me cringe. I ran into this beat earlier. I should have just shoved PF.

i need to play some sngs again.... it seems i haven't done so for ages - I've monied 5/6 my last mtt's (micro pays though) so maybe it's the new way forward. Seems harder to clear bonuses that way though.

Even though you opp. played incorrectly this is not a bad beat, you put in most of your money in when you were behind and he out flopped you.
    More of a cooler.
There is also a forum on here for posting bad beats if you want some better discussion on hands like this, it's in the block just below the one with this forum in under the heading "Poker Etcetera"
    It's my 2nd fav. forum.

I'm not ashamed in an "I'm embarrassed" kind of way. More in an "oopsies, I made a boo boo" kind of way lol. I'm learning...slowly but surely.
