Default When is it NOT ok to call for set value?

I never really got into ring so I don't know what the rule was. In this spot UTG had 670 chips at 15/30. This is a 1 table SnG.

Here it is not OK to call for set value, because villain has only got ~7x the size of his raise left and we arent going to stack him every time.

To give a more general answer, don't call for set value unless you're:
    a) getting 10-1 (compared to smallest of yours and opps stacks) and you know you can stack your opp on any flop

    or

    b) getting 20-1 (again compared to stacks)

The more correct answer is either incredibly long talking about ranges and postflop tendencies, or really short: It depends.

Default I heard if < 15x BB, do not call for set value..Is that t

I thought I read somewhere if < 15x BB, do not call for set value.

Is this a good rule of thumb?

I also suck at this. In OP situation it's No.
But say level 1. First hand (just to make stack sizes simple 1.5k each). I will usually call PFR up to 100 with any PP. Would this be following the 15x rule? If im the one to close the action and there was a raise of say 120 and 1 or more callers already is it ok to still call with any PP for set value?
Meh i think theres a "playing small pp" post in the SNG TACTICS , this thread just reminded me of it. Going to go check it out now.

Yeah, you can call if you can win 15x the amount you need to call.
That's a good rule to get started.
So if all stacks are 1500 (first hand) you can call up to 100 (100*15=1500=stack size=maximum you can win).
You should be a little more cautious if there are active (read loose) people left to act who will likely raise.

Anyway just remember you need to be able to win >15 times the amount you can win.
I am just another learning player, so read my comments (very) open minded.

It really really depends on the range of the opening raiser and how spewy they are postflop. If a total nit raises UTG in full ring, you can call with like 10x the implied odds because we will stack him so often. If a loose player raises on the button, you need waayyy bigger implied odds to make call pre, c/f a missed flop profitable.

I usually just go with the rule: you can call if the raise is not >10% of your stack or if his raise is not 10% of his stack. I normally go with this because I am usually playing several tables and I don't have that much time to look at everything.
