Default low stakes 6max stars sng

i am horrible at 6max, heard it is a great skill to add to your repetoire, i consider myself a capable sng player, so i want to translate that to 6max, any comments would be appreciated...obviously hands 8 and 10 are awful so please focus on the rest other than those two, and i ll in turn promise never to make those moves again

Short handed sng's still go in the SNG forum, so a mod should move it there. Most of the browsers here aren't qualified to comment on tournaments well.

yes, tournaments of any type are VERY different from cash in many ways.

Actually, a lot of players play really differently in a 6-max tournament for some reason. I love 6-max FOs because they're so much fishier; people play way too loose and make a lot of mistakes.

You can open up a little bit, but you shouldn't be overvaluing mediocre hands. If you notice someone at your table is doing that, though, adjust your play and his ranges accordingly.

Push/fold and the like end up being the same as always except you're simply at a shorter table.

I haven't read your HH so I don't know if any of this helps you at all. Just some things I've noticed and believe to be true.

I don't know much about 6max SNG, but here's what I think. Overall, I think you're playing too loosely, but I may be wrong.

Hand 3...I don't know about the raise here...

    Hand 5...fold PF

Hand 6...I wouldn't play this hand. Fold PF.

Hand 7...I wouldn't limp this at all UTG...Fold PF

Hand 8... very loose play. Don't bet into multiple players with absolutely nothing of a hand, despite the checking on the flop. Especially don't fire a second barrel on the river with bottom pair.

Hand 10... I'm not entirely sure about the numbers on this push, but I don't think they are good. I would fold this PF since there are still 3 players to act, and you still have 11BB to push in a better spot.

Ok, but you have to really promise.

Hand 6 was pretty bad too. An attempt to win 75 in the blinds with T5s ended up costing you 400 chips, 25% of your stack.

I'm not a 6max expert, indeed I hardly ever play them at Stars, so take this with a pinch of salt. Even in a 6 max turbo playing 41% of hands seems a bit high. At least, it does over 24 hands in total, since there is no need to play so many hands in the first 3 levels.

Aggression is good later on, since the rewards are so much greater (bigger blinds to win, getting close to cashing positions).

Hand 5, 6, 7: Fold pre. Too loose.
Hand 8: I dont mind the turn bet, I use this sometimes vs. 2 opps who seem indifferent to the hand. Any calls though and you shut down. River bet is spewage.
Hand 9: With your short stack, you are push/folding now. No calls. This hand is read dependent, if you have any fold equity at all, I'm pushing.
Hand 10: OK, while you are short, you still have 10BB so you dont have to push quite so wide. This is a little too wide for me. I'd rather you pushed the previous hand.

If I've learned anything on this forum from Tai and others, it's that, at least in 3.40s, there is lots of value in playing very tight early. Chip preservation is key. You're not trying to accumulate chips so much as survive. Wait for blinds to be worth something before you try to push the edges. Let a few people bust out and then push/fold your way past the others. Most dont play push/fold very well. If you do and you bust before the blinds get big, you didnt give yourself a chance to see how fishy your opps were.
