How Is This For Beginning MTT/SNG Strategy?
As I've written in my introduction, my "live" play has been limited to freeroll MTT's and 3 Doyle's micro SnG's because I won $2.40 from their Thanksgiving Freeroll. (I placed ITM once so far) I've been able to place in the top 30 for 2 qualifiers; one on UB and the other on Pacific. I also made it to the final table once on an FT Aussie qualifier as well using the following strategy (or close to it):
1. Play ultra-premium hands (AA through AK) only until my chip stack is down to about the average. If these come jam pot or all-in except against a scary board. (I usually jam postflop to see if I flop a set or top pair) I'm amazed at what people will bet and call all-in at the early stages of a tourney (J-9...) but then again it's just a freeroll.
2. Once my stack has come down to about the average then use Harrington's conservative strategy.
3. As the blinds begin to eat the stack use Harrington's aggressive strategy (any ace etc.) Look for opportunities to double up.
4. Last few tables or so play super aggressive but not with obvious junk.
5. Only call all-in with pocket A's or maybe KK-AK if I think the jammer is has something less than these. (I keep notes on what people bet and call all-in with)
6. Steal blinds and antes only with solid hands and retreat if the blinds fight back heavily. (no use in risking a stack over a blind or ante) One freeroll I lost most of my stack over a blind steal
I've found that most of my trouble comes from calling all-in with something like 99 etc. DONK I don't mind having my aces cracked all-in by a flush (happened last week) when I was shortstacked and about to be blinded out because that was the best strategy to survive.
Anyway any thoughts about this strategy will be appreciated.
