I might just shove it preflop, but your line is fine also. If you're standard raising then you have to get the rest of your chips in on the flop even if the A comes (as you did).

Your stack is not big enough to raise preflop and then fold at any point with KK, either shove preflop or play as you did, I would probably raise to 3BB preflop but it is a minor issue
