Default MTTs Guide To MTTs - RA

At the site I play at, the rebuy period/add on finishes at the end of the 75/150 level. 100/200 is next. Each level is 10 mins.

Is it okay to just have 1500 (or 3500 if get chance to add on) at this stage? I couldn't tell if Char thinks that is still good shape compared to the blinds. At best it's just shy of 16bbs and many of the others will be well into double figures.

My one and only success in a MTT came as a result of the opening few games of a $3 rebuy, where my QQ held up to beat KA, KK and JJ to put me on 4500. 2 more double ups later and I was sat on 9600 and felt no pressure to get involved for the rest of the hour. I was pretty much at this level when the rebuy ended (I added on) and went from there to finish 7th for $77. Which was a good return on my $6. And also annoying as I was 2nd chip leader at the FT and had my heart set on a top 3 finish (minimum of $168, maximum of $384).

The point is, and maybe it's psychological only, I feel better placed to at least a double up within this crazy period. If I don't, i start to panic. If 3000 is ok at this stage, I will feelless pressurised in making a move.

    Thx

you should re buy right away if you can but your site may
    not allow that.

16BBs is fine, clearly, more is better. I am not really sure how to answer whether it is "OK". You should not make what you feel is a -EV play just because you're worried about your stack compared to anyone else.

If it is still the RB period and your stack is below the rebuy amount, it's OK to gamble a little more than normal, especailly if the break is coming soon.

    Thx.

What I meant is, sat with 3000, are you still very much in the race? If I get beat just before the add on, and many of my contempories are 10,000+, it makes me think to quit whilst ahead.

owever, if this is wrong, and 3000 with blinds at 100/200 is handy then I will adjust accordingly.

If you add on you have more wiggle room and FE.

What you should do is write down the names of the leaders of a couple tourneys your in right after the re buy period. I don't remember who said it, but it's interesting to see how important the rebuy period and huge chip leads matter. Check the leader board late in the tourney or when it is over, and see how they did. The point of the re buy and add on is to set up for some deep stack play, not to be the chip leader, as nice as that is.

It's a tricky question with lots of math (probably if you look on 2+2 long enough you can find someone who's done it) but I think more or less the answer is that as long as you feel like you have an edge in the tourney, you should go ahead and continue.

If you get big hands cracked a few times or your table is really tough or whatever, dropping out right before the break seems OK. But again, only for some non-stack related reason. You'll find a lot of those people with 10k stacks have NO idea what to do with them and you'll have 6k and they 7 in no time.

I've ended the rebuy period with both 56k (3rd chip pos I think) and with the minimum 5k. I bubbled the first and won the whole thing in the second.

So basically it doesn't matter all that much. I think you are giving up a HUGE edge by not buying in 2x every time you start/bust. Adding on I think is a must; I always do it.

Buying in at the start - and 2x? I didn't know this was possible. I thought you had to wait until your chips are gone before you rebuy. And as for buying 2x, I can't recall seeing that option. I just got asked if I want to rebuy.

On stars, you are allowed to rebuy immediately putting you at 3000 chips. When you drop to 1500 or below, you can rebuy. If you drop to 0, then rebuy twice.

Also on stars and most major sites, you get to add-on after the first hour. Normally this is an add-on of 2000.
