    Default Operation FTR Make Me A 200NL Winner (RIP Operation Wheels)

    Where to begin? I have played NLHE for approx 4 years casually now. I have deposited a few times and withdrawn a few times and have no idea if I have won or lost money over this time. I played cash, SnG's and MTT's and enjoyed each of them. Until recently I have not really studied the game seriously but have now read a few books and gained some good insights from browsing FTR.

    Recently I deposited into PKR to give their software a try. My $100 deposit turned into $1,500. I won a $2,000 guaranteed MTT for $600 as well as a cash in the $10,000 guaranteed. The remainder of the winnings came from $50NL 6-max and a couple of massive hands won on $100NL full ring. I of course realise now that I was under rolled for that and was extremely fortunate not to lose a big chunk of $$$.

    It was at this stage I started to think about my play more and future strategies. First was to start clearing more bonuses and signing up for rakeback. So I deposited into Absolute Poker to start earning rakeback and clearing their bonus. I started playing $50NL 6Max and started well but ended up -$500 which was actually -$600 in real terms as I had cleared $100 of the $500 bonus. I probably was not the player I thought I was. Where/how was I losing money? No idea apart from some bad plays. So I made four decisions;

    1. Purchase Poker Tracker.
    2. Move to full ring to make hand selection/decision making easier.
    3. Consolidate current poker accounts and decide starting bankroll.
    4. Give myself a target.

    The target I have set is a new car and Operation Wheels is born. It is going to be a grind and first of all I need to become a winning player at $50NL. My bankroll will start at $2,000. I hope I can succeed. I am looking forward to updating this thread and hopefully some FTR members can impart some pearls of wisdom/give me a flaming along the way.

    I have played a few sessions now and it has been the longest time I have ever sat at the PC playing poker over such a short period. Considering my results are not yet positive over the first 10,000 hands ( although I am breaking even with bonus and rakeback ) I really want to progress my game so I can consistently win at 50NL.

    Another small milestone for me was a session when I had KK all-in PF and was beaten by QQ on three separate occasions. After some initial cursing e.t.c. I just got on with the next hand. Accepting those losses without giving up or tilting I think is a positive step for me as I would not have reacted that way in the past.

    Since you are at the earlier stages of learning how to play NLH, you are definitely better off cutting down the number of tables you are trying to play at once. Seriously, i would recommend 1-2 tables for 10k hands, study Pokertracker, and post as many hands as you want where you arrived at a spot where you weren't sure what the best decision was.

    Good luck! What kind of "wheels" are you playing for?

    You're probably right. I have been trying to do things too quickly with no real thought or self analysis. I am now back to playing two tables and putting real thought into things like opponents hand ranges, even when not in the hand. And of course there is more to Poker Tracker then looking at $$$ won or lost.
    As far as the wheels go I have not decided what I am playing for yet. By the time this operation has finished we might all be driving cars that run on hydrogen! In the meantime I need to play thousands of hands at 50NL, earns some bonus/rakeback, improve my game and hopefully at some point move to 100NL.

    I have just deposited into Full Tilt Poker to work on their Bonus and withdrawn my funds from Absolute. One of the first tables I sit down at had a complete maniac. He was running at 84/70 and had become the big stack at the table.

    September has not been bad overall. First of all I underestimated my starting bankroll from my funds in assorted sites. Instead of $2,000 it was actually nearer $2,500. This means with the money won in September plus bonuses and rakeback my bankroll is now in excess of $3,000.
    Unfortunately I lost a few thousand hands of my Poker Tracker database when I had PC problems so I have only got the last 8,000 hands played during September.

    Despite not having played many hands at 50NL I have decided today to move up to 100NL as 60 buy-ins for 50NL is way too conservative. If I am rolled for 100NL why be afraid to play it. I can always move back down if needed.

    I decided today to break my routine up a little and play a $10.70 + $1 double shootout satellite to the Sunday Million on Stars. I ran hot on the first table (kept flopping trips) and I had won first table before first level had ended. An hour later the final table started when other shootout tables had finished.

    The final table was a drag as there was one player who was continually disconnecting. I would have thought that the software would sit them out after disconnects but it did not. This guy nonetheless had accumalted some chips and was still around for the final four (top two qualified) and every hand I was twiddling my thumbs waiting for him to timeout. He was also sat to my right so I could not steal so much. He went out in fourth and we were down to three. Several hands later I called an all-in. I am not sure if it was a good call ,considering only top two qualify, as I am not an expert on bubble play. I got lucky though and won through to my first Sunday Million.

    Deposited into Party this evening to clear their easy bonus. Was not a bad evening. I caught some cards and was +$200 over 600 hands then I played these two hands and I called it a night.

    Villain here was 53/11. Maybe I was still thinking about the hand above. Bet pot on turn this time but why do I fold on river? Initially I thought I misclicked and maybe my subconcious steered my mouse hand to fold but I know at the time I did not even work out the pot odds. Probably behind but still what an idiot.

    Biggest single loss so far has happened to me tonight. I have taken it quite well which is surprising, no swearing or breaking of inanimate objects (probably because it is my last day at work tomorrow and I am feeling a bit more cheerful than normal). I was also up for the evening before this hand so only a minor loss tonight.
    With limpers and 5 players to the flop I think I will need to learn to play these hands more carefully in future and not automatically assume my set is good. I think I am also having trouble sizing my raises. Villain has bet pot and I min-raise giving 4 to 1 odds. I have a habit of just pressing raise rather than thinking about the actual amount I should raise.

    I decided to give 6 Max another try today. I started at 50NL to get a feel for it again then moved to 100NL. It turned out to be well worthwhile. My bankroll has broken the $4k barrier.

    I shall still play full ring but also keep developing my 6 Max game. If I can be a winning player at 6 Max then I will clear bonuses quicker and earn more rakeback. I shall be viewing the FTR video archives for some 6 Max tips in the near future.

    Also it appears I have not reported on my finish in the Sunday Million on 7th October. I came 2809th. I busted out as follows;

    After a big upswing between 18k-20k hands I am now experiencing my first downswing. I knew I spoke too soon lol.

    In a few threads a some posters have recommended the Ongame network. I recently deposited into Pokerroom to work on a $250 bonus and to see if it is as fishy as everyone says. $500 of my downswing has been here. A mixture of some beats and some really bad plays on my behalf. Although I can definately say it is the worst standard of play I have come across to date at any site (mine included ).

    I am finding it more difficult to read holdings of my opponents and I have stacked off with TPTK too often. Just finished a session on their 5Max tables and learnt another lesson on position which I have not been applying since watching Trainer Jyms table selection video. There are players with +50% vpip on the tables regularly and when I identify them I now leave table and sit down to their immediate left wherever possible. It makes playing them alot easier.

    Another problem of mine is I am too results orientated. I tend to look at my PT profit/loss/graphs too often as well as updating my signature/bankroll spreadsheet after a session. It may help if I do this less and just analyse specific hands after sessions and just worry about the rest on a less regular basis (weekly/monthly maybe).

    After losing 20% of my bankroll in mid/late October I took a break and started playing again this month. After playing 15k hands in October I hope to play circa 30k hands this month and clear the final portion of the bonus on FTP and a reload on PS. Later this month I will be looking for pastures new.

    Since the beginning of November (10k hands so far) I just cannot stop schwonging. I really need to watch some 6 max vids and post more hands as I feel more "competent" at FR than I do 6 Max but I am playing 6 Max most of the time as I am enjoying it more!! On one table tonight I had position on a LAGG 45/20/5.

    Stop Press. Operation Wheels has been amended. After realising I have been too results orientated and gaining a different perspective on things I have decided to amend my goals as far as poker is concerned for a number of reasons. To reach my target of $10k I need to be a winning player. I do not know yet if that is the case. I need to focus more on my game and become a better player who wins over a significant number of hands. Also if I were to reach $10k am I going to want to withdraw my roll. The short answer is no. It was a bit of a silly idea/goal but it did get me started playing more poker than I ever have before.

    I previously committed to watching more of FTR's videos and absorbing some of the great strategies on the forums. I have started this by checking out Sauce123's thread on SHNL 6 max and watching 6Max videos by Hyper, Ville and ISF/Massimo. Thanks for posting these. Doing this has improved my hand reading of opponents and my 3betting game which was practically non-existant without premium hands.
    My roll currently sits at $4,200 after an excellent session recently where I had two fish to my right playing 60/5 and 75/30 (Table Selection tips courtesy of Trainer_Jyms). I raise, they call. I cb, they call. I could not predict their holdings at all. Patience is a virtue and after a couple of hundred hands I get my hands on some of their chips. See hands below. Worst players I have come across, they just could not fold so I had to give up cbetting if I did not hit a flop. As I have now 40+ buy ins for 100NL I am unsure as to when to take shots at 200NL. I feel I need to get alot better and play more hands at 100NL before I do.

    With a bankroll in excess of $4,000 I played my first 200NL sessions today. I usually 4-6 table 100NL 6Max but for my first few sessions I am just going to play 2 tables at 200NL. If my roll goes below $4k its back to 100NL. Biggest pot of the night;

    MP raiser was a nit and BB was a bit fishy entering and raising lots of pots.

    I think we crossed paths for only a few hands on Stars before table broke up? Also thanks for the 200NL players thread - I have bookmarked for future reference.

    2008 rocks. Well so far anyway. After toying with 200NL for only a few hands in December I have gone back to 100NL this month as my game still needs working on although I will still take the occasional shot. Playing at 200NL has kind of desensitised me a bit more from the money at 100NL so I now find myself doing more of the things I should be doing more of i.e. 2 barrelling, 3-betting, raising e.t.c.
    Tonights session has been my best yet. Must be the new avatar! Caught some great hands and also discovered an awful player who I won several buy ins from tonight.
    Here are some hands played against this 80/40/5 donk who would constantly reload after losing his stack. He also moved to a 200NL table later which I followed him to.

    First hand against donk. I played it awful and was giving up on river until......
