    Default $27 - AJ

He was 15/10 over 35ish hands so far.
The pot was 550, he had <1000 chips on the flop.
    Cbet and call a shove?

I think I like checking behind here. There are quite a few turn cards you will like (aces, jacks, spades, tens/queens for a gutshot) and if he was planning to C-R you on the flop with a big hand then you just denied him that opportunity. It would be a pity to have to make a crying call on the flop with a hand that has some strength rather than an instacall with a monster hand on the turn.

Wow taipan I hadn't considered that angle. It is not a bad one to at least think about. Here's my gut reaction though:

15/10 over 33 hands tells me very little. Does he set mine without good odds? Slow play big pairs pre? I tend to not give him credit for attempting a check raise. You have a decent hand on that flop when checked to. I bet it 375 on the flop, giving him 2.5:1 there and see if he can go to the felt. Your range is ahead of his at this point, so I consider this a value bet. If he folds, fine, but if he pushes that means it's 590 left to call in a 1515 pot, roughly passing the pot back to you for 2.5:1 again. He apparently would not mind getting the chips in here. The three hands I'd give his range the highest weight are in this order: KQ, KJ, KT, AQ spades, rarely you may see a slow played AA (although given tightness I rarely see 15/10 style players slow play aces pre), and of course always accounting for the 10% bluff rule (say that means mid pocket pairs is in his 10% bluff range). Against that range, getting roughly 2.5:1 I would call the push. I didn't run it through stove though. There are worse spots in a sng to get your money in. At least this isn't a bubble battle.

My standard raise at 50/100 is 300. Narrows his calling range down imo.
Id bet about 400 on the flop and probably call his shove.
However Taipans suggestion about checking behind is a pretty good one. As it opens up his range for continuing in the hand.

Tai I'm not sure we want to 'hit' a ten, but I agree with everything else.

It is really hard to imagine he can have a hand that will often improve on the turn that he'll fold on the flop.

Oops it was a typo, thanks for picking it up! What I meant to say was that Qs and Ts give us a gutshot, and particularly if they are spades, we have a nice hand.

I bet it out after the flop. I find it better to put him to the test, then wonder if I've given him an opportunity to try can catch up on the turn or river if he has nothing, and him calling and or raising again lets you know to proceed with caution. A/J is one of those hands that tend to get people in trouble.

I would bet it out, with FD and str8 draw options on this flop I think giving a free card is too dangerous and I think we are ahead most of the time on this flop

Thanks. Still trying to get back some of the poker smarts I lost not playing regularly. It's all coming back now. Slowly but surely.
