Default Low M but Good Compared To Field

Had some good results at the start of the day before things dried up and I was in a situation I hadn't encountered before.

295 runner, top 30 paid. Down to final 49, I only had about 11bb left but my position was still 11th, and in keeping with a few spots above me. On one hand I start to think about open shoving with less than thrilling hands but on the other, I was ahead of 4/5 of the field and thought it would be prudent to wait for them to be knocked out. Not least because each hand was becoming heated with even shorter stacks.

In this, and a later tourney, it just started to dry up midway through, no hands, pots always contested etc and my 30xbb stack was soon whittled down as the blinds got larger.

    Thx

    It would help, wouldn't it?

The question is what is the best course of action? Shove as I am low, or consider that otehrs are lower and let them shove (ths avoiding a tangle)?

I'd play more aggressive than usual. Given that everyone is on a very short stack, at the next blind level there will be even less fold equity in an open push than there is now.
Some days it feels like I've been standing forever, waiting for the bank teller to return so I can cash in all these Sklansky Bucks.

Don't worry about what the average stack in the tourney is or what place you're in. Just play your own stack vs. the blinds and the other stacks at the table.

This tourney sounds like a huge luck-fest but you can still have an edge if you know when to gamble (which is often). Tourneys like this usually have a lot of fish who try to fold their way up the payout ladder.

Posting some specific hands will probably help.

Your situation comes up a lot in turbo tournaments and there's still a decent edge if you know how to push/fold correctly.
